I did a stupid thing six weeks ago. I dipped a cotton swab in cayenne pepper tincture (made from Habanero pepper) and tree tea oil and put it in my ear to get rid of a persistent itch about mid-way in the right ear canal. I treat new eczema spots with cayenne pepper tincture, tree tea oil, and lotion which always worked for me.
I had an ear ache and right-side neck ache for about 15 minutes that rated about 8 out of 10 on the pain scale. After that I was fine for the evening and the next day.
But at the start of the second day, I started feeling dizzy. I was fortunate to make it home after work. Soon after, the room was spinning wildly and I threw up a number of times.
After about a week, I was able to walk but like a drunken sailor. Soon I was able to drive but it was like if I didn’t have any sleep for a couple of days. I had about a few minutes of stability after two weeks but it has been weeks since my last fleeting stable moment.
The mild drunken feeling is still constant. Did cayenne pepper tincture inflamed my inner ear nerves? Cayenne pepper isn't suppose to be inflammatory. I’ve noticed that hearing in my right ear has improved a little bit but the same inflammation may be negatively affecting the nerves to the vestibular part of the right inner ear causing mixed signals with the left inner ear. I don't know.
Is my Eustashian tube blocked? I try popping my ears and I think I popped them but I can't be sure. I have no pain or fluid backup in my ears.
I did a suc*** punch to my poor right ear and it appears that ears take quite a while to get over a shock as this.
Does anyone else have any suggestions as to what could be wrong from the cayenne pepper effect to my ear? It appears I'm the only person in the whole world who has done this. I'm not dizzy from some infection, or some disease. Cayenne pepper is only supposed to bring blood to the area of application, NOT CAUSE DAMAGE!! So what the frickin' hell could be wrong??
And could castor oil drops help? Would Dr. Christopher's B&B Tinture help?

MoreThis is a reply to # 1,513,830Hot peppers have been known to increase the speed of detox. The Cayenne probably stirred up toxins in the area. They are causing inflammation on their way out, putting pressure on nerves.

That depends on how long the Cayenne hangs around to agitate the toxins. It also depends on how many and what type of toxins are present.
This is one of the reasons the human body is so difficult to study. Often, a reaction from the body is not a direct result of the stimulus, but an indirect result by the stimulus shifting other things around which are already in the body. Detox, nutrition, fasting all act differently based not only upon what is being put in the body, but what has been put in the body in the past (sometimes stuff that has been put in months or years ago can have a dramatic effect). This is why some people find fasting more difficult than others, and why some diets work for some people and not for others.
For example, I used to get rashes on my skin from eating peanut butter. At the time I had no way of knowing whether it was the peanut butter that caused it. Now, I no longer get rashes, despite eating the same type of peanut butter. With the data I have now, I can conclude that it is not peanut butter that causes rashes, but an interaction between peanut butter and something that was in the body, but no longer is.
This is why most medical studies are useless. If the study is not carefully conducted for at least several YEARS, it is impossible to determine the true effectiveness of a treatment or all possible complications, advantages, or disadvantages.

This is a reply to # 1,514,034If you are going to use the combination of garlic oil with B&B tincture, be sure to put the garlic oil in the ear FIRST, then the B&B. The oil helps provide a buffer to the alcohol content of the B&B tincture....and given that your ear is already sensitive / inflamed, you need some soothing action.
FYI, I've used this combo off & on for a couple years now... even had MH make me a pint batch of B&B for this purpose. I've had a chronic problem for several years that usually revolves around Eustachian tubes the frequently become clogged and ache. Over the years I've tried various remedies, some with more success than others, but the combo of garlic oil followed by B&B tincture has provided reliable relief.
This is best done as a night time pre-sleep routine. If possible, you want to warm the oil just a bit, this way your ear drum wont have a moment of shock when the oil hits it. Put a good 5 drops of garlic oil into the ear, don't squirt, just ease the drops into the outer canal and give it a minute or two to sink towards the inner ear. It helps to tilt your head in a position that allows the oil to settle into the inner ear. Let that settle into the ear a minute or two. While you are at it, also rub a bit of the oil all the way around the outside of the ear and down the neck / throat. This helps to get some medicine into the lymph area. Then put a couple 2 or 3 drops of tincture into the ear AND also massage a few drops on the outside over the same area where you just rubbed in the garlic oil. Then take an appropriate sized wad of cotton to plug the ear. You don't want the plug to be real tight but you do need there to be enough of a wad of cotton that when you roll your head over to sleep for the night, you want something to absorb the oil before it runs out onto your pillow.- Re: What did Cayenne Pepper do to my... Thanks for the suggestions, ohfor07. I felt a little better this morning after putting the garlic oil and B&B in last night. As the day went on, I felt more dizzy than in the morning but hopefully as I continue to use it, it will get better and better.

Next time you want to get rid of an itch in the ear use ionic silver instead. No irritation just kills fungus, viruses and bacteria. Helps healing.

This is a reply to # 1,513,830Not everything can be explained away with 'detox'. Rearch organ of corti. Cayenne CAN cause damage because of the sensitivity of inner structures. Perhaps a ENT doctor or someone with experience in flushing ear tubes can help you. My best regards to you.

This is a reply to # 1,513,830When reading about how balance or the feeling of balance is maintained by the body, I learned that the brain stem plays a role in maintaining balance.
I figured that I couldn't have damaged my ear nerves to the vestibular part (balance) of the inner ear because my hearing actually got a tiny bit better. Since the vestibular nerves is part of the auditory nerves, then I reasoned that the nerves didn't get damaged.
I have on a number of times been able to pop my ears so the Eustachian tube is not blocked.
So why do I still have this wobbly-headed sensation? It could be the Brain Stem had been affected by the cayenne pepper tincture in the ear canal. Horizonally, the brain stem aligns with the ear. Remember, I had suffered a 15-minute painful ache in my neck below my right ear and TWO days later started feeling the dizziness. It appears that when the brain suffers a stroke or some type of trama, symptoms show up a day or two later, like it did in my case. Whenever I relax my upper back and neck during sleep, my wobbly-ness is decreased the next day. I guess I have to treat this like I had a Brain-Stem stroke and I've read such things usually takes a few months for the brain to "reset" itself. This would be better news than having actual inner ear nerve damage.
Does anyone have ideas as far as healing or soothing the brain stem?Advertisement

This is a reply to # 1,517,365I had similar symptoms a couple years ago. It's a terrible feeling and you have my sympathy. For me, the symptoms went away after a few days and haven't returned. I have since learned that this is very common.
Here's an idea you may want to discuss with your doctor: The cayenne may have caused swelling that dislodged crystals (which are normal) in your ear. When those crystals bounce around in your ear, they cause a condition known as Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo.
I have a friend who is a doctor and he sees this condition all the time. Luckily, there is a method of turning the head in a specific sequence that allows the crystals to settle in an area of the ear that doesn't cause dizziness.

This is a reply to # 1,513,830Catman, How is your ear after 7 yrs? I am also worried, as I seem to have got Tea Tree oil in my ear. I mixed high conc TTO in my shampoo for about a week, and I suddenly had hearing loss and dizziness. Doctor confirmed hearing loss... There is a study in 2000 that showed high conc TTO is indeed toxic to the ear and can cause high freq hearing loss... Do a google search "study of tea tree oil ototoxicity".. I am wondering how much the body can recover naturally ? How are you doing ?
