I posted about my son in another forum a few days ago. He's involved in an extremely poisonous and inappropriate relationship. This has forced me to do a great deal of soul-searching and I'm re-thinking an issue that was brought up to me a few years back.

I believe he may have Aspergers Syndrome. He has always been very eccentric, but it's a quality that I happen to love in people, especially my kid, and so I didn't think much more of it. But now that he's 19, I think we really need to consider every possibility.

He has always been very introverted; he has worn the same clothes for years because he can barely tolerate the "feel" of new ones; he has had varying obsessions through the years, his current ones being film and music (he has amassed a huge collection of both); he will talk at length about both, but if you bring up a subject that makes him uncomfortable he will look away and/or walk away; he often laughs at inappropriate times; he finds it nearly impossible to deal with school details (registering for classes, scheduling tests, etc.) on his own. He cannot STAND any change in his routine or any change at all for that matter. He is quite affectionate, though, hugs me all the time.

To complicate things, he has a very high IQ and is very, very handsome. We always considered him to be very unique, although nothing has ever been easy for/with him. I'm just starting to feel very frightened about this kid dealing with the world now that he's becoming an adult.

Can anyone offer some input? I will, naturally, not put him on any drugs.
