Hi, I am a scared to do a liver detox because of how extremely sensitive I am & and I do mean extremely sensitive!!! What kind of detox symptoms do you get from a liver detox.
Look in to the herb mix triphala or the herb bupleurum. Both cleanse the liver but are mild.
I have had test for thyroid & they all come back ok. These test have all been done with a medical doctor. When I first did the Iodine patch & went through detox, my thyroid swelled up to 3 times it size. I went to my MD & she did alot of test on the thyroid. She could not get over how swollen I was. I told her about the iodine patch I did & she said that there was no way that could have done this. When all the test came back ok & she said I must have ate something that I was allergic to. I know that I do have a thyroid problem. I do have a groiter. I have started taking prolamine iodine.
Lab tests are notoriously inaccurate when it comes to thyroid testing. Basal body temperature is much more accurate:

Also keep in mind that there are a number of things that suppress thyroid function including adrenal dysfunction, estrogen dominance, chlorine, fluorine and bromine exposure, etc. Some but not all of these will respond to iodine therapy. In your case it sounds like adrenal dysfunction reducing cortisol levels that is needed for proper T4 to T3 conversion.
I have just gotten test back from Vitamin Research Products, that said that I have low morning cortisol, low progesterone, low dhea. My estradiol (E2) was within range. My testosterone and night cortisol, was also within range, but on the low side. My Ratio of pg/E2 was also low.
I am taking 3 calm-prt aday from neuroscience for the low cortisol. I have also been told that progesterone will also help the low cortisol. Should I take both. I took progesterone cream a year ago & could not handle it. I also find a hair on my chin. I have been told that dhea can cause this. But I am low on dhea!!
I also wake up with terrible mornings. It seems like the minute I wake up my body has a hot flach & I have very high anxiety. My mornings are terrible. It takes me half the day to get it together. After this I seem to be ok. I find myself not wanting to go to sleep at night because of my mornings. What happenes when I go to sleep & wake up that makes this happen. Is is low cortisol or progesterone. This is the only time that I have a terrible hot flash, at least this is what I am thinking it is.
I have told my naturalpathic about this & I think he thinks I am crazy.
Any information on this or is there other people that have the same experience as me. All informaion is greatly appreciated.
To start with let me start with what I recommend what you avoid. And that is DHEA supplements and progesterone creams. These will only lead to more problems in the long run than you started with.
Based on what you have said it sounds like 1. Your adrenals are shot and 2. You are in menopause. The reason these are important is because as you go through menopause and the ovaries shit down the adrenals become the primary source of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. The adrenals are what also produce your cortisol and DHEA. Therefore I recommend you focus on your adrenals first.

Vitex (chaste tree berry) is a good way to help the body boost its progesterone. Keep in mind though that it does take about 2 months to kick in so don't expect quick results.
Have you ever been on Julia Chang's website? It is really good. Here is a link
to one of her articles:
I have read some of her stuff in the past, but I disagree with a lot of her information and recommendations. For example from the link you posted:
"Several herbs are mentioned as beneficial to the liver including Coptis, Gentian, Self-Heal and Scutellaria."
Two herbs I do not recommend are coptis (goldthread) and self-heal (prunella). Coptis is a berberine herb as are goldenseal, Oregon grape root and barberry. Berberine destroys the intestinal flora and can damage the intestinal lining after a few weeks f use. In addition these herbs drop the blood sugar and deplete the body of potassium raising the blood sugar. Self heal suppresses thyroid function. These herbs are best avoided especially since there are more effective and safer alternatives.
She also mentions using the gallbladder flush, which does not work:

I addition she has a section on what to do if the flush lodges a real gallstone in the bile duct. What she did not mention is that this can be life threatening and if it happens it normally requires emergency surgery so it is best to get to a hospital immediately.
I haven't done her Gallbladder flush, or taken the Self Heal, just the Coptis. I certainly do not want my intestinal lining damaged!? Have you had experience with these herb(s)or where did you hear this?
I have known about this for a long time, about 15 years. I have been working with herbs and other alternatives for 19 years, and do a tremendous amount of research since I also lecture and teach classes on herbs and alternative medicine. So I cannot tell you exactly where I learned this since I came across this so long ago. More than likely somewhere in my library of books since I find a lot of information in these not found on the Internet. But the information on the berberine killing the flora is in some of the recent medical journal publications. Many of these can be found on Medline or with a quick internet search.
