Thanks for everyones response so far. I can say that after following some basic guidelines for treating adrenal fatigue symptoms, I have really improved. Seems like I'm in it for the long haul.
What I believe is happening is that stress and a lack of my typical physical activity have made my body unwilling to support my chronic stomach issues and have run me down to the point of exhaustion. I recently had to care for a close terminally ill family member, fight off relatives over money, property, maintaining fairness and mitigating disputes, while taking a few months off from work, unpaid. I'm not usually one to stress over money but all of this was a bit much for me to handle. During all of it, I worked out religiously and ate healthier than usual. a few months after returning to work, I reduced my exercise to 2-3 times a week, very light, often without consistency and frequently pushing myself to make up missed workouts. I've also been taking a little more ashwaganda the past 6 months to help aid in sleep.. I'm not sure if that is a contributing factor but I've completely cut out any extraneous supplements.
Things that have helped:
- 4g Lypo spheric vitamin C, (1g taken every 3-4 hours)
- 1x dose vitamin B complex mixed with water
- 1x dose vitamin D (5000 UI) - this is typical for the past 5 years
- 4g Lysine (taken before every meal)
- Teaspoon of apple cider vinegar taken with water before and after each meal
- L-Glutamine taken with half serving of greek yogurt in the morning
- Calcium / Magnesium blend of 400mg Cal to 800mg Mag before bed
-
Sea Salt (the good stuff with iodine) with water - feeling more hydrated now, urinating way less frequently
- High fat / high protein diet - as long as it's not spicy, my stomach seems to be just ok with this now. Still having occasional heart burn if i'm not on it with the vinegar
I'm hoping to have my cortisol and hormones tested over the next few weeks but otherwise I'm apprehensive at taking anything adaptogenic or specific for adrenal issues, if I'm indeed having issues with that. I understand adrenal conditions are extremely complex and needs proper guidance.
At one point, towards the beginning of all this, I could barely get out of bed, walk a mile without feeling exhausted all day, or eat protein or fat of any kind. Now I can walk for an hour, recover within an hour, and eat beef, fish, and chicken. During the day, I'm pretty alert. However, my libido is still way below normal, and anything other than light cardio will tear me up. Seems like I'm improving but I'm afraid I will plateau soon (hopefully not). Still looking for someone in my area who will be able to help.
Started acupuncture / TCM last week. I'll report on my progress.
Thanks again for everyones replies. They where very useful points to research over the past week.
