Hello, I am writing to you today because I do not know what to do anymore! My whole problem started early october when I crashed my car and went under a lot of stress. I had to ride my street bike to school but didn't have a helmet so I went ahead and asked a friend, and he gave me one of his extra. Turns out that helmet had been sitting in the garage for a while and been used by at LEAST 4 other people. About two weeks went by and I started noticing my hair falling out in the shower, then it started turning into scalp pain and sensitivity as the week went by (my hair is pretty short). I started getting the feeling of something crawling on my scalp especially in the effected area of scalp (frontal left side)loosing hair and the rear of my head, it got worse at night time. I did feel crawling near my nose and eyelashes sometimes as well but it went away. My hair began to thin in only one certain area and there was pain associated in that area along with the crawling sensation and redness. So I began to research online and picked up some tea tree only, applied it with some olive oil and slept. Things were better the next day but then it would go back to the same feeling. I work in a warehouse setting and there is a lot of dirt, it seems that after work my whole scalp feels like it is crawling and on my days off it's better. I have been using a beanie to shield it when I am working but I can still feel something crawling underneath, I think it loves the heat! I used lavender oil in my shampoo as well as tea tree which helped a little.
One thing I did notice was I had a lot of dandruff the first time I cut my hair. I made an appt with the doc and he prescribed me Selsum Sulfide which did something for a day or two and then nothing after. So I went back and was prescribed ketoconazole 2% shampoo and that made things feel a whole lot better but the condition never stopped it. It would come back 2-3 hrs later. I went to a health store and picked up oregano oil (oral) and olive leaf extract and started taking it, these two made me feel a whole lot better! But AGAIN the feeling came back. The hair shedding has slowed down a lot but i'll still get a pimple in the area and itch associated with pain and crawling. Ill always get one pimple on my scalp and it will get a white head. Then that area will start to crawl and hurt, seems like it is moving to the other side of my scalp now because my hair is thinning there as well. ONE MORE THING i was studying for finals and pulled an all nigher, and the next day i didn't get any sleep at all, my scalp was going crazy in the area with hair loss, it was hurting so bad and this is when it moved to the other side of my scalp. Seems like my immune system took a fall and these things attacked. What could this be? My last hope was to think it was scabies because i've tryed to rule out what else it could be, so I went ahead and picked up clove oil and some fresh garlic from health food store. Made a past of garlic the first night and left it on all night. When I woke up in the morning I felt a lot better but symptoms came back, the second night I did garlic with clove oil and it calmed things down more but it burned! Last night I just put clove oil on with some coconut oil and my scalp feels better the crawling has subsided quite a bit but I still can feel something moving. Its been a week and it looks like the hair loss has gotten worse.. help!!
What can it be? I want to stop loosing my hair im only 20! I just want to continue my life again. Help please!"

For laundry use at least a cup in each wash.

This is a reply to # 2,045,491When my scalp itching was at its worst, I put borax and cheap liquid clothes detergent into my bath and soaked in it for 30 minutes as hot as I could, keeping my hair underwater as much as possible. I did this every night for a week, and it stopped the itching. Also, I would put coconut oil on my scalp and put a shower cap on and leave it for about 3 or 4 hours, then wash it out with Sulfur 8 shampoo. It takes awhile to get rid of them, because they are laying eggs all the time. You have to treat constantly for up to a month to get all the eggs as they hatch.

This is a reply to # 2,045,491These are most likely demodex. The previous replies gave great tips. They are incredibly hard to eradicate, but if you feel them moving they are mating on the surface and not hiding in follicle. Get a half gallon jug and add 32 oz of distilled water and a cup of borax at least. Put enough borax to over-saturate/not dissolve any more, then add 16 oz of H2O2 (Hydrogen-Peroxid) 3% and shake well. After showering, pour the mixture slowly over head, scalp, torso and extremities, Do NOT dry off with towel or anything but moving air. Leave it on a good while to soak into skin and scalp. The peroxide is necessary for a catalyst to skin absorption. ACV or liquid MSM work in a similar fashion if you don't want the peroxide. This method works great for animals also(fleas, mange, ticks or mites). Do this every 3 days until you are mostly clear, then every 10 days for maintenance. It's cheap and effective so stick with it. If you sit in the dark for 5 min. before starting(after 12pm preferrably) they will come out of hiding and be easier to nuke. Good luck and happy hunting!--KB.

Im so drained from all of this, it's been going on for 6 months and im about to hit 21.I just want things to go back to normal, im tired of cutting my hair short becausse its thinning on one side of my head. I don't know what this could be and im sick of it. I use tea tree and cocunut and sea buckthorn, neem oil every night because it's the only thing that makes me feel better. I hate not being able to sleep on my pillow case and not having to worry about cleaning it. Is there anything that it could possibly be? It doesn't seem like a ring worm, or scabies? I just have red and pain and occasional pimples followed by tiny to lines of hair loss. Today I rode my bike and man my scalp hurts so bad in one area, I think it was my helmet but it is a different one. I just don't know/ Is there a test I can have the docs do? anyone please answer. I have the same problem. Only mine is accompanied with stinky scalp too. I originally thought I had fungus, but even oil of oregano didn't work. It made it a little better, but I could not use regular shampoo without stinking again. I saw on another forum that a girl had this problem and she used citronella oil to kill them off. You have to dilute this oil as it can be sensitizing, but I am currently using the Burt's Bees insect repellant on my head for the second night which is a combination of lemongrass, citronella and rosemary along with a little grapes oil so you don't burn your skin. The girl on the other forum did it for three nights and she was free of the little buggers. I am currently on day two and have noticed an improvement. Not sure if she used the oils without diluting or not. Anyway, you might want to try I. I am losing hair and a girl...totally not cool. Good luck.- Re: Crawling on scalp and hair loss!... mintpink

This is a reply to # 2,228,345I've been trying all the other ideas off and on (i.e. borax, coconut oil, tea tree oil and demodex shampoo), also natural herbal insect repellent, I figured it should be similar to the formula in Burt's bees. Mine was called Kids Herbal Armor (citronella, lemongrass, cedar, soybean, etc.). unfortunately... the hair loss increased (Maybe, I made them angry?)

You can use it for shampoo, but also, put it directly o skin and scalp.
You will be glad it exists... that stuff continues to help me, and its affordable.
I also use seabuckthorn oil on scalp, and there is a shampoo with seabuckthorn oil in it called Rx shampoo or doctors rx shampoo.
At one point my ears were bothering me and I put tea tree on some
ear plugs and that helped... I sometimes put a little jason on the outside
of my ears...
Jason's is gentle because its intended for the skin. In the beginning, I had this all over... and I used Jasons all over. It can make you feel cold, as its like cold cream in a way... so wear extra jamies... but I have a bottle in the car, by the bed, and take it when I travel etc.

This is a reply to # 2,047,004Every morning after my shower I slather myself face to feet in coconut oil and watch those buggers all come out of my pores. I massage firmly and pick and pick if I have the time. Otherwise I just go on with my day and they fall off dead all day here and there. Everyone has them just some seem immune and then others like us suffer with nasty side effects. At night I'll bath in the dark in epsons salts and 20 drops of tea tree oil and then after slather again in cononut oil and pick and pick. You have to treat the whole body. I'm on day 5 now and I'm only getting babies and small amounts. First few days I had hundreds! Went through lots of kleenex and now find tweezers helpful as the babies are pretty small. For my hair I'll use tea tree oil and conditioner, or just add drops to whatever I am using like baby shampoo or regular shampoo. I've used selson blue too. It all works but I think the key is to do the whole body and every day to get population down and under control. Sure they get stuck in pores and breakouts occur/infection but just put some polysporin on it. Tell us how you do please! good luck :)

Have been having this 'scabies' thing for 2 years.....doc just suggested that mayyybe that's what I had..... last week😡.....used the permethrin....and had THE best nights sleep in 2 years....so I have tried almost everything ...don't think they are gone yet

This is a reply to # 2,045,491Hi! Your situation sounds terrible! Have you tried to buy a shampoo without sulfates in it? My hair doesn't fall out nearly as much when I wash my hair with aveeno naturals, the one that says no sulfates on the bottle. This helps a lot with my forehead and back Acne too! This is a reply to # 2,045,491Try mixing 50/50 organic castor oil and coconut oil on your scalp at night. Put a towel over your pillow and sleep with it on your scalp. Wash it out in the morning with Dawn (kills the mites, and fleas, btw) and do a final rinse with the borax rinse. The castor/coconut oil helps your hair regrow. Also, take 5,000 mcg of biotin a day to help with your hair regrowing.
To make supersaturated borax, add borax by the tablespoon to a liter of water until no more will dissolve. Strain the water part off into another container, and put some in a spray bottle. Spray it on your skin and scalp as often as you like, but it's drying, so you might want to put some cocoa butter cream on after it.
This has done wonders for me. My hair was falling out by the handfuls, and now it's thickening back up nicely.- Re: Crawling on scalp and hair loss!... petluvr10

This is a reply to # 2,090,454So thankful I found this post; I've been dealing with a scabies infestation for about 2 years. I've done A LOT of research on the subject because no one believes me. I have read that once you have the initial infestation you break out with hives/burrows/itchy rashes, etc. but after that your skin really doesn't have a reaction although you still have an itching crawling sensation (which is exactly what I've experienced and am currently experiencing).
I'm fighting a losing battle because I am not getting any help from doctors or family (again people think it's psychosis).
I've noticed the texture of my skin changing; for example when I'm holding my 14 month old daughter and then I put her down I develop these deep wrinkles/burrow marks on my arm in the very area I was holding her. These deep wrinkle marks last for like 20 minutes before it fades.
I've noticed little bald spots on my eyebrows and eyelashes and nearly a total loss of hair on my arms. But now I'M LOSING HAIR ON MY HEAD. At first I noticed it thinning but didn't really think anything of it because I have naturally thin hair but then I started LOSING my hair. It's so embarrassing because I catch people looking at my head and so I know my balding is noticeable. I've cut my hair really short but need to find a solution to stop the hair loss and hopefully grow my hair in again.
I'm so glad I found this website because it feels so good to finally talk about it. The sad and discouraging news is that my daughter's father is an unsanitary slob (had I known he was so unsanitary I would have never been in a relationship with him). I know for a fact that he goes months and months without washing his sheets! We don't live together but he is fighting for shared custody of my daughter and I don't want her over his house because he doesn't believe he has scabies and is unsanitary so that means my daughter will suffer. I have been thinking about calling the CDC on him hoping they can help but I'm not sure if that will even work. Besides, because he doesn't have a rash no one believes me.
I don't know what to do about treatment for my body and my daughter's body. We've been to a dermatologist as recently as last week because my daughter broke out in zigzag hives but by the time we got an appt they deflated to little bite marks. The doctor dismissed it as an allergic reaction and told me to monitor her diet. I insisted that he perform a scraping of her skin or look at it with a special light but he stated there was no active rash and so there was nothing for him to scrap. Well, now she has scaly dry patches where the hives used to be. I feel so guilty because she is too young to be dealing with this.

you are not alone. My college student son and I have been fighting this since may 2013.
I have the same symptoms as you.
the coconut oil masks on the hair really help. saran wrap or plastic shower cap will keep from ruining your pillows and increases efficacy. smothers the mites over night.
I do this every few days. I notice if I go a whole week, the itching becomes unbearable.
you can massage the coconut oil in your eyebrows and just above eyelids just before bed if those areas are affected as well.
laundry additives borax or from the site I include.
sprays. I have small spray bottles with alcohol to spray small bites when I get them. usually on ankles or back of neck/shoulders.
or buy the cedar oil spray from site listed. really works. I alternate it with daily alcohol for small bites. alcohol on my tile floors.
keep all the clothes you're not wearing for the week wrapped up in plastic bags. always. put plastic covers or allergy covers on all mattresses / pillows. I got an airbed out of desperation to stop itching.
buy a steamer -hot steam kills them.
hot dryer.
put clothes in a bag freezer over night before washing if you can.
extreme heat and extreme cold kills them.
ivermectin works. prepare the above first so you don't waste your money
peremethrin works. but toxic and very expensive.
my studies show me that woman - especially middle aged/ older or women with immune challenges get the heaviest blowback. studies show women with type O+ blood are bitten the most by this vile bug.
ugh. hope you and your little one are better.
I'm fighting our second outbreak.
our neighbors got it first (dog mites). then us then an elderly guy who lived next to them got it -showed me his bites on back of neck. (where I get them too)
He died of a heartattack a few months later...so sad. I researched the connection. there is one with mites and weakening of the heart. ran the story by my dermatoligist (first time I"ve had a dermatoligist) and he said there's a connection.

This is a reply to # 2,090,454I'm currently being treated for patches of baldness. I'm only 28 years old and do not have a hereditary history of baldness. My doctor is currently having me use Clobetasol Propionate Topical Solution at night and Clindamycin 1% Top Soln 60ml in the morning. Which one is to cure the hairloss and which one is to get rid of the bacteria?

This is a reply to # 2,114,6426% sulfur cream kills demodex mites, get ur pharmacy to make it up, 6% sulfur in aqueous cream. (Aqueous is the cream base). Its cheap.
Put it on ur face just before it gets dark & leave it on all night every night. Use it on ur face or eye brows, Ur eye brows will grow back just like mine did.
Buy sulfur powder & mix it in with ur shampoo, use around a level teaspoon mix with the usual amount u use per wash (use a cup add a level teaspoon then add abit of shampoo & stir add a tad of hot water & stir). Lather on ur scalp & leave for 15-30 minutes then wash out ( only do this when its dark, lights off! Shorter the hair the better.) Even use as a face soap, leave on for a few minutes.
"Face doctor" soap & cream also kills demodex mites, use the cream/soap at night & that does the trick.

This is a reply to # 2,045,491I too have had that problem. I used to treat my scalp with sulfur (Nustock) but I have found that MSM is far superior and it seems to kill everything and promotes hair regrowth. MSM is also a sulfur compound and do some research...it is fantastic for hair and skin. I use MSM cream on my face for demodex mites....might mix it with a bit of pine oil (aromatherapy) or a bit of tea tree....but have discovered that if I dilute the MSM with hot water and syringe it on my scalp, it seems to be working very well without lots of oil on my scalp. It is always good to hot oil treatment your scalp at least once a week with either emu oil or coconut oil or castor oil or a mix of the above (India has a wonderful hair oil on Amazon)....and of course I include some aromatherapy oils as well...a bit of peppermint oil or whatever works for you. Rosemary stimulates scalp. I add peppermint and Rosemary to all my shampoos and conditioners. good luck. As far as your face, do a 10% glycolic acid cream on it....be careful. You might try 5% at first until your face gets used to it. By the way, you can ingest MSM in large quantities. Google it ..... it will help

I hope this is going to you since I have used this site. I went six Dr's concerning the same issues that u r experiencing. The 1st through 4th Dr.just threw it off to age for the hair loss & suggested things that never worked. I then started researching & it all led up to Demodex Mites which we all have but I learned that I have an over abundance of them because my immune system is compromised because I have a lung disease. So I went to the 5th Dr. & took all of my research to show her that I do know what is wrong with my scalp & hair loss. I had already been using tea tree shampoo & conditioner. So she offered no HELP. The 6th Dr. is a teaching Dr. at IU med center. I told them what I had been going through & he said he will treat it aggressively with IVERMECTIN.By this the mites were going crazy & I was desperate for help. I was to take 1st dose of 5 tablets & 7 days later take 5 more. By the 8th & 9th days the mites were going crazy.I had to shampoo late at night & put tea tree on my scalp to be able to sleep. On the 10th. I woke up feeling like a new person....finally no movement.
This is 6 months later & I am back to the same problem. It's ironic that Dr.'sact like they know nothing about this why so many people are suffering from this. I hoe this helps someone. All the best!- Re: Crawling on scalp and hair loss!... Mitefighter

This is a reply to # 2,387,668I have been dealing with Scabies for about 8 years myself. At first i thought i had lice and my doctor told me it was a mental problem, so i went on for years believing it was all in my head. Until i couldn’t take it anymore. I also experienced hairloss and extreme frustration. I believe i finally figured out how to defeat them now. I tried ivermectin twice but both times the stupid docs gave me the wrong dose. The right dose is 6-8 pills your first dose and then 6-8 pills the following week and even a third time just to be sure because ivermectin really does work and kills them. Also permethrin creme works to but it doesn’t eliminate them. I just tried a bleach bath and that did wonders. I’m going to take a bleach bath every day until they are gone and try to get a doc to prescribe me the correct dose of ivermectin and i think i can beat them after all these years, good luck to everyone n god bless
