Hi all,
After three years of trying to figure out the right dietary approach, I think I have figured it out and for the last half a year I follow a regiment that made me stronger, more energetic, more alert and made me calmer.
For several years prior I have been struggling with severe brain fog, severe fatigue, hypoglycemia, blood pressure fluctuations, indigestion, severe PMS, muscle aches, fluctuating weight and water retention, insomnia, irritability, heart aches and headaches.
In summer 2010, my family and I became vegan (no junk food, home prepared meals, raw for sometime). That completely didn't work for us. It made us weak, aggressive, hostile, we lost sleep and stamina, I started having panic attacks.
Summer 2011 we went lacto-vegetarian and that was even worse.
June 2012 we started GAPS diet protocol, it worked wonderfully and slowly brought us back to normal life.
Then, in recent months I have noticed real improvement when I tried Warrior diet meal schedule, or basically nocturnal eating. I was on GAPS diet for a few months by then, my blood Sugar was pretty stable through out the day and I had some energy to try it.
Concept of nocturnal eating is totally contradicting to Ayurveda, or any Western approach, where lunch is the main meal of the day. But, honestly, I believe Ori Hofmekler (founder of the Warrior Diet) maybe be so right about it. Though at first, I didn't take him seriously. Nocturnal eating maybe much more than just a trendy diet by some aggressive athlete. I believe it really may be the way we are supposed to eat.
I always disliked breakfast, so that wasn't a problem. Giving up lunch was a bit challenging in the beginning, but in a about a weak, I didn't notice any feelings of deprivation and my energy level significantly improved and my brain fog just disappeared. No more fatigue in the afternoon!
I don't agree with other aspects of Warrior diet, especially anti-estrogenic part, but the schedule is great and I can say it worked for me. My husband was the first one to try it. He always said that breakfast was evil :). When he found out about the Warrior diet, he started it immediately and he says he is much more focused, energetic and productive at work now and can exercise more. He either skips lunch completely, or eats something like some greek yogurt, or small salad, or couple of fruit.
Around 6-7 p.m. we eat a generous amount of dinner. Full GAPS diet meals - meat dish cooked with butter, ghee or coconut oil, cooked veggies, fresh veggies, fermented cooked grains, full fat dairy, and even sometimes desert (sweetened with raw honey or maple syrup). We eat lots of butter - about couple pounds a week. He eats lots of cheese, I don't.
I skip both breakfast and lunch, though I used to drink bone broth with butter and egg yolks throughout the day in the beginning, now I sometimes can eat a spoon of raw honey with water, or drink fruit compote (water left after boiling dry fruit in it).
I have noticed that I get really hungry only after 4 p.m. anyway. I mean real hunger, when you cannot concentrate on anything, you just want to go and eat. So, I usually have a protein snack around 4.30 - 5 p.m., like a cup of bone broth with 3-4 oz piece of chicken, or a couple boiled eggs and then, eat full size dinner after 6.
Another thing that really helped with brain fog and fatigue was Triphala. It's Ayurvedic herbal treatment for overall cleansing and is a mild laxative as well. 1 tsp of Triphala mixed in fruit compote or just water for lunch (or before sleep) is a great way to detoxify.
Please, note, that to follow nocturnal diet regiment, you should preferably be of Kapha type, or at least have some Kapha traits, Vata types do better just on GAPS, or variations of it. Check out Ayurvedic typing and find out your type. Kapha types have slow digestion anyway and it's good for them to take longer breaks between meals.
When we eat a meal while the previous food is not fully digested, we usually get a brain fog. Please, google "ama", it's an Ayurvedic concept that describes how our undigested food becomes toxic waste and how it affect our clarity of mind.
Please, be careful with nocturnal eating if you are underweight, emaciated, feeling cold, have hypoglycemia, or low blood pressure. You may need some hearty fatty salty snacks in that case, like rich broth, eggs, some meat in case you want to try nocturnal eating.
My husband and I have also noticed before this regiment, that grains for lunch are the worst. They make us very sleepy and tired. Broccoli and cabbage (cooked or raw) are the same way.
I have also noticed that when before the Warrior schedule, I ate dairy or grains for lunch, I got really bad fatigue and indigestion in addition to brain fog and I had to lay down. But if I eat dairy and grains for dinner, I have absolutely no brain fog, no fatigue and no indigestion after dinner and can sit and watch a movie or read and be very alert. And all the rich foods give a restful sleep.
So, my typical dinner is:
a cup of bone broth with 1/2oz butter and about 3 egg yolks
about 1/2 to 3/4 lb meat dish, usually turkey or chicken cooked with butter, ghee or coconut oil and lots of herbs and spices
2 cups cooked veggies, like carrots, beets, broccoli (no nightshades or alliums)
about 2-3 times a week I eat about 1 cup cooked fermented rice, millet or buckwheat with butter.
1 cup of fresh leafy greens
1 avocado (very often)
sometimes 1 cup of cooked mushrooms
dessert (About 2 hours after dinner) 1 apple, or a couple soaked dried apricots, or sometimes 1 cup yogurt sweetened with raw honey or maple syrup.
My husband eats a very large bowl of grains everyday and about 3/4 lb meat dish, about 3-4oz cheese after dinner, and the rest is the same as my dinner.
Our weight: very stable.
I'm 5'7 and weigh 125 lb for the last year (that was my weight when I was 17 y.o., I am now 32)
hubby weighs 165lb, height 5'10". He was 30lb heavier on standard diet, I was 20lb heavier.
On vegan diet, he lost weight dramatically, down to 145 and was seriously weak, I weighed 128-132. My weight fluctuated on standard and vegan diet about 5 lb heavier during PMS.
We gained some weight on lacto-vegetarian diet, mine was about 135lb, his was about 175lb, both felt heavy, tired, sleepy and had brain fog.
I am Pitta-Kapha type, he is Pitta type.
On GAPS diet our weight stabilized and stays the same no matter what. I got a thinner waist line than I ever had before and cellulite has dramatically decreased. My arms and legs look leaner, muscles are more visible even with no exercise (slight yoga). On standard diet I was chubby, even though I ran about 10 miles a week. On vegan and lacto-vegetarian diet I still had fat around abdomen, arms and thighs.
PMS symptoms are almost non-existent now comparing to severe couple years ago. I think Dong Quai helped me a lot with other herbs.
So, GAPS with nocturnal eating has been great for both of us. Mental acuity is great, so is energy level, very stable mood, sleep is very sound. I recovered from non-functional, staying in bed most of the day to pretty functional and now have energy all day long. Additionally we did colon cleanse, liver cleanse and take herbal treatments. Supplements now - B vitamins and some cod liver oil.
I find nocturnal eating on GAPS was the right balance between fasting/cleansing and being fully nourished.

yes, I also feel that during the day my body is healing, especially GI tract. It's like I can have a healing fast and a nourishing meal all in one day.
Digesting a meal activates our parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for rest, it's even called "rest-n-digest" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasympathetic_nervous_system.
During the day we need our sympathetic NS to function, to be productive, alert and energetic. This is the system that is responsible for "fight-or-flight" type of processes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sympathetic_nervous_system.

I'm glad it's helping you, but got to admit this diet makes me cringe. Skipping breakfast and lunch? Yikes! Seems like another fad diet that tries to shuffle the SAD diet around to make it work.
I find the eating heavy foods too late screws my sleep up and makes my belly sore in the mornings which makes me less hungry at breakfast time. Sound familiar?
I recommend try eating only fruit and lots of it for breakfast through the afternoon if you experience fatigue or brain fog with other meals, because fruit gives you energy without making you feel full and bloated as other meals can.
The brain fog and wired feeling from eating fruits or other carbs a lot of people experience comes from eating too much fat with high-carb meals. The health activists I trust the most recommend eating high-carb, but keeping fat low and only eat overt fats at dinner time since fats are the heaviest on your digestion.
In the end the most important thing for your body and brain is to get enough calories per day because even a diet of the best foods with the best balance will fail if you don't eat enough on it.- Re: Warrior Diet meal schedule (noct... #155216

What possibly could your motivation be for steering someone away from what is working for them?
You calorie people are beginnging to sound like a cult. There is absolutely ZERO listening on your part to other people. Particularly when someone posts that what they are doing is working well for them.
Saturated fats are high calorie dense foods. Anyone on a high fat diet is not calorie restricted.
OP: congratulations. Keep up what is working for you.

I have seen your posts and replies to other people here. I am not fond of your aggressive writing style, your pushy remarks and your overall behavior. Your logic is far from solid.
I honestly feel sorry for you; what you are exhibiting is clearly not a healthy behavior and obviously not a supportive one. This is a support forum, not "push your vegan ideas" forum.
You completely lack the ability to listen and perceive concepts that are outside of your dietary scope. Which in itself is a very mind-limiting and hostility-breeding pattern.
When I was growing up in Russia, fasting was very common, it's historically accepted, and even supported by religion and medicine. Either no food fasting, or vegan post/lent. So, traditionally, we have 3 long lents a year, when people are encouraged to be vegan. Lent before Easter, August Apple Lent and the one before Christmas.
So, there is a widely known phenomenon. While fasting on vegan diet for those months, or when they fast on water (if they can), they very often develop pretty much all the symptoms that you (and other vegans) exhibiting: being pushy, jumping into other's conversations and not following the conversation logic, aggressive, overly-critical, demanding attention and being arrogant.
This phenomenon even has a name - a faster's (or lenter's) vampirism. You see, when normal people eat animal products they get some very concentrated life force by eating them - the larger the animal, the more the life force. If I eat and egg I get, let's say 1 point, for a piece of fish - 2 points, for chicken leg - 4 point, for a beef steak 25 points, or something like that.
When we eat fruit or vegetables we may get something like 0.0003 points of life force. Plant have LOTS of Pranic energy, I know that, and that Prana supports your Prana (or Vata). But! Prana is not enough for a physical body alone, you need solid, grounding life energy from animal fats and protein, plus all the scientifically proven minerals, vitamins and so on.
So, pranic food (plants) alone makes you deficient in hearty, grounding, stable energy that usually gives people tranquility, calmness, contentment, patience, stability, mental cohesion and allows them to be energy donors to other people providing love, support, and understanding. It also gives you mental ability to be down-to-earth (literally) and metaphysically, be logical and consistent and reasonable. By not getting all this hearty grounding foods, sooner or later you start to look for this energy elsewhere - basically start stealing it from other people's emotions. You attack other people by trying get their attention desperately. Just like small children also get their parents' attention by both good or bad behavior. Children are the ones who have not accumulated enough life force yet and have to get it from others. The elderly are pretty much out of the life force and sometimes can resort to energy draining from their care-takers. People who are not fed well, or not well-rested, or over-worked, over-stressed, or fasting/going vegan are the same way. They are deficient in life force and become energy drainers of others.
It is really sad that you resorted to such behavior of hijacking other people's threads, pushing your illogical ideas and trying to teach others who already came here to share their successful experiences. What you are doing is trying to convert everybody vegan. It's not only a delusion, it's pretty much fanatical radicalism.
It is very very sad that you became this way. You could've been much smarter, much more supportive, much kinder and much wiser Natway. You could've been shining intelligence instead of being a clown here marching with your vegan slogans. You could've been enjoying soulful talks with supportive friends here instead of asking for pity. I bet you don't have any real friends outside vegan circle. How sad, you have to come here to post illogical replies to people who can only feel compassion to you.
Your body is clearly telling you something - in pretty much every thread that you post here you mention not getting enough of calories. That's your body asking you to feed it. Don't you see it?
Calories from even the fattiest plants cannot compare to calories from animal sources. They are just not compatible. And honestly, the whole calorie theory is not sufficient, it's very very superficial view of foods.
Sweatheart, I don't need your advice, I am good, I am sharing what is solid, what has been researched and what proven to be working by personal experience. I rely on theory that has been proven either by history, or by doctors, or athletes.
I don't rely on activists as you do. Activists are simply people who managed to be louder than others, not necessarily wiser. Health activists are screwing with your brain as well as your health as clearly your behavior is far from adequate.
I really hope it will not be too late when you actually understand where you are and how you sound and that your body will not be damaged beyond the point of recovery.

lakshmi7, I don't approve natway interventions on the forum, but there's no such a thing as concentrated "life force" in animal flesh or even in plant based foods. Food is just calories, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, fiber, vitamins, minerals, enzymes. And vegetables and fruits have far more enzymes, minerals, fibers and vitamins than any animal flesh. I'm not saying vegan is necessarily the way to go, especially the fruitarian diet that natway advocates, but there is no doubt that vegetables and fruits have much more healing qualities than any animal flesh.
Regarding fasting, fasting (especially on vegetable juices) has healed thousands and thousands of people from terminal diseases, and it doesn't "damage" anyone if the fast is properly conducted.- Re: Warrior Diet meal schedule (noct... lakshmi7

Healing is not the same as cleansing.
If you can fight a diseases by cleansing on juicing, it doesn't mean you can live just on vegetables for years.
Healing is usually both cleansing and nourishing. juicing and bone broth is both cleansing and nourishing. Personally, I healed my gut inflammation with bone broth and cleansed my liver with juices.

In the Western modern world maybe, but any traditional practitioner in the East of the globe would see foods from a phenomenological point first: energy, hot/cold, light/heavy, etc. If you learned something through formal western education, it doesn't mean that it the only applicable concept. Ask a random Chinese person which food has more energy/or life force in it - broccoli or chicken? Or ask a Ukranian to compare bacon and spinach... Or a Polish person to see if cabbage has more nutritional, or healing value than kebasa (sausage). :)

Wrong, animal products are much more dense in vitamins, minerals and even enzymes. Modern propaganda has taught us wrong, corn industry is much more profitable than raising chicken:) Fibers are not essential to human digestion. Good (for a healthy gut), but not vital.

I agree with you, corn industry is a disaster to human health. But corn has very little to do with vegetables and fruits.
Also, fiber IS essential to human health. Our friendly flora feeds on fiber mainly, and it is well known that 80% of the immune system is located in the gut. A healthy gut means basically a healthy body.
Fiber also binds to bile acids, preventing its reabsorption.

This is an interesting discussion.
I believe that as individuals we should follow a diet that is comfortable for ourselves - be that 100% raw vegan or full-fat, animal protein rich, or somewhere in between.
What works for one person may not necessarily be compatible with another. So let's just try to accept each others diverse bodies and dietary habits, rather than attempting to convince others that *our* diet is best for everyone.

I have to disagree. In some cases, especially when the gut lining is damaged and inflamed, animal flesh and especially fats are the only foods that a person can eat. The very thing that animal products has no fiber makes it possibly as a recovery healing food for people with damaged GI tracts.

You would agree that there is a huge difference between chewing a rubbery medium rare beef steak and sipping a rich chicken broth, and eating a chicken leg that has been boiled for 5 hours? Fish, seafood, chicken, and turkey are easy to digest, especially when well cooked (boiled) and can be digested by people even with low stomach acid.
Red meat is hard to digest and requires a lot of stomach acid. You don't have to eat only red meat in order to get your minerals and proteins. You can eat it when you have sufficient amount of stomach acid when you have recovered. Chicken liver can supply you as much or even more nutrients.
Stomach acid is easily replenished with HCl Betaine, raw sauerkraut juice, lemon juice and you need to supplement Iodine in order for production of stomach acid.

Fiber is not essential. Eskimos historically lived without any fiber and are still doing much better than modern Western population. Nordic people (Norway, Finland, Sweden, Faroe Islands)live on very little fiber. People who have historically lived in prairies (steppes) have lived on meat and fermeneted dairy mainly and teas made with fat (Mongolia).
Gut bacteria live on whatever real food you can give them and are adaptable to any diet as humans live in various conditions.
Fiber can be damaging to gut lining of the GI tract and in case of digestive issues should be the last thing to eat.
Fruits and veggies also have anti-nutrients in them as a means of self-defense. Just like animals can run to save their life, plants have evolutionary developed phytates, lectins, and gluten to survive. They can only be eaten (especially raw) when a person has no digestive issues.

Modern culture is barbaric in the way how we eat plant foods. Fruits have to be peeled and cored, nuts have to be soaked, beans and grains have to soaked, fermented or even sprouted before cooking to eliminate anti-nutrients. Did you know that almond can only be eaten soaked and peeled as they not only have phytates, but also cyanide compounds in their skins.

That's the whole problem here. You need to look into Anatomy and Physiology. You don't want to prevent re-absorption of the bile acids (unless you are doing a liver cleanse). Re-absorbing bile acid is a normal healthy process in our digestion. Body recycles everything, including blood, tissues, etc. Bile acid are precious and contain vitamins A, D, K, E and lots of other useful components and we do reabsorb them because these vitamins are precious and are not easy to get from diet. They can only be replenished by animal sources of these vitamins. Once you lose them, you are in trouble. Bile production gets compromised. It takes months of eating butter and ghee and drinking raw egg yolks to build bile stores. It's no joke, you surely do want your bile to be reabsorbed.

there is so much misinformation being put forth by the fruiters. and this is irrespective of what diet you want to eat.
i think these people just have very compromised digestive tracts and found that fruits are a good workaround. but the info about fiber and fat and hcl acid is all just plain wrong, no matter what diet you eat. humans cannot digest cellulose, this is a fact, and indigested plant cellulose causes many bacterial/fermentation problems for a lot of people.
you're correct about stewed meats and broths too. stewed meat is very easy to digest, much more so than cellulose. ripe fruits are easy to digest as well, but we see what happens psychologically to people who choose to only eat fruit. the same thing happened to me when i tried to eat only fruit. it only takes 3-4 days before i become very psychologically unstable. fortunately i am able to identify this and just have some protein and feel normal again. i think some people just are unable to look at themselves objectively and then get caught in a strange cycle of fruit eating and severe imbalance.
the number one cause of peristalsis problems is not lack of fiber but lack of bile. bile is the laxative that the fiber people are actually seeking, but never achieve because they are on low fat diets. low fat diets are proven 100% to cause bile stasis. and when you enter that realm there is usually not a way back from it other than Liver Flushes and reintroducing fats back into the diet -which can be very uncomfortable when your liver is filled with gallstones. so these people completely misinterpret their symptoms of feeling awful when they eat fat as proof that fat is not good. but in reality it is just something they must endure on their way toward true health.
the idea of binding bile is comical on a number of levels. first of all, the fruit people will rarely have any bile flow whatsoever, because they are not stimulating bile release in the first place. secondly, even if they did have any bile flow, they would want to reabsorb it because they are not consuming any dietary cholesteral. binding this precious resource is the exact wrong way to go. again, because a lot of these people have almost no knowledge of basic physiology.
i personally think that humans have a diverse genetic heritage, some of us leaning more toward meat eating and others not. there have been recent news articles about interbreeding between different species of ancient humans, and also the relevance of small dna changes that actually have much more wide-reaching influences on physiology than once thought. so we can have situations in which a small percentage of dna change can have a larger, leveraged effect on functional phsyiology. translation: just because some people might have only a 3% difference in dna with a baboon, they might have a dramatic difference in functional physiology, which can easily mean that a much more carnivorous diet is optimal.
i also had success with the warrior diet, but this was before the book even came out. i had severe sleeping problems and just stumbled upon eating a large protein meal before bedtime. after some time of doing this my sleep got much much better and now there are no problems at all.
the one thing i find very rude, is that the people who eat meat and protein don't push an agenda, but the fruiters are all overly aggressive/judgemental/un-empathetic/closed minded. They completely lose sight of the fact that most people are trying to heal themselves, and not put forth an agenda or convince others of a certain philosophy. also, the fruiters do not actually heal, they just live in a perpetual state of compromise using a bandaid temporary solution. that's why you see 10-15 year veteran vegans recanting their spiel - the smart ones that is. the not so smart ones wind up dying (moritz) or hiding away in a state of severe compromised health.
you find that the people who actually heal their guts are eventually able to be successful omnivores, they can eat fruits, grains, meats, fats, etc, all in moderation. but the fruit people are locked into fruit for life, becoming more and more sensitive to anything but what is essentially baby food. this is the most telling bit of information because it shows the more powerful path. when a person heals they are able to tolerate a wide range of diets with relative ease.
people who do the gaps or scd diet are eventually able to eat grains and dairy again. proof that there is a state in which the gut actually heals and that a life-long restrictive diet is not necessary.
that guy matt monarch demonstrates my point beautifully. he is locked into the most restrictive diet now and cannot deviate even slightly. the fruit cult see this as some sort of higher existence/elevation. but the reality of the matter is that he has damaged himself, and it is very apparent from observing his actions and speech. it is simply a matter of time before matt either has something very serious happen to him or fesses up and goes down the path that paul neeson did (very courageous guy to admit he was wrong).
in actuality, there are very rare cases of long term vegans thriving. it's a great and noble pursuit but it just does not bare the test of reality and scrutiny, especially in the cases of adrenal fatigue.
the ayurvedic perspective is also extremely interesting, though i don't know anything about it, perhaps i should read more.
i also think many people are making things so complicated for no reason at all. at some point your body will just want to eat protein or fat, and then you just do it when the sensation arises. people who deny these basic instincts get into very serious trouble or they die just to hold onto an incorrect mental notion.

Thank you so much for standing up for me, I honestly felt like being under an attack. How weird, I do not impose any of my findings or any details of my life-style but simply tell what happened and how I got better and provide all the references to validate my views, I am not against any approach that works for somebody else... and such a reaction here... wow.

It’s true that bile excretion is low on a vegan diet. We know that there is a chain reaction in the GI tract. Secretion of stomach acid sends signal to the liver and gall bladder to secrete bile as well as to the pancreas to secrete its enzymes. If there is not enough stomach acid, then there surely would be limited bile secretion.
From an Ayurvedic perspective, as Vata has a cooling and drying effect, hence plant foods rich in Vata have the potential to dry up stomach acid. I bet plant foods would be great for high levels of stomach acid, but who in modern world has that luxury? Acid reflux is just a sign of low stomach acid as it happens, not high acidity as it is commonly thought…

Is it possible that the same binding power of plant fiber also affects the stomach acid? I think it may be the case here. And the more fiber we eat, the less stomach acid and consequently less bile we produce, and, as you mentioned, bye-bye peristalsis an hello constipation….
And if we are lucky to still have some bile excreted into the duodenum, we definitely don’t want to be reabsorbing it further in the intestines, as bile is not only a vital variable in our digestion, but also is the essence of our Pitta without which we can literally lose our spark both mentally and physically. No wonder Depression is associated with low dietary cholesterol level.

I turned to a Warrior schedule due to the exact same reason, the more nourishing the meal at night was, the better was my sleep. Before that I heard all these theories that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and that Jesus allegedly preached that we should eat our breakfast completely, share half of our lunch with our friend and give our dinner to our enemy completely. Then, there is this famous Russian belief that eating after 6p.m. makes you fat and most women try to follow that rule. Even Ayurveda preaches us to have the main meal at lunch. Well, I think somebody got it wrong or got only partial info which can only work as somebody mentioned here on Vata-Pitta types, and the incomplete theory about meal timing spread around the world.
And as other people in this thread have already mentioned, Ayurveda absolutely has to be more flexible as we are living in Kali Yuga times https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kali_Yuga,
we are not nearly as strong as our ancestors millions years ago. Special considerations should be made for specific times in human history. Again, as any science, Ayurveda became dogmatic and inflexible in certain aspects. I believe that any system of knowledge has to be upgraded on a regular basis as everything constantly changes.
It is very possible that humans have a very diverse genetic background. Yes, we are all surprisingly different in all possible ways; we cannot be of just one single biological species. Human history is so much more than we ever knew, and plus it’s the most falsified area of science. This would be a whole separate discussion I would surely love to have.
True, GAPS and SCD dietary approaches have shown to be effective on many people with digestive issues and yes, after being on this diets for sometime, people are able to digest things that they considered to be inedible before. Hence, we can say, that these dietary approaches can be called healing.
A healed, functional healthy GI is the focus of restoring health. I listened to the lecture of Jordan Rubin recently

Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride spent years searching for the right healing foods for a sick gut and managed to cure her own son of Autism. She specifically mentions that without our GI tract being healthy, we cannot function mentally, or detoxify properly or simply live a normal life.
On my way to recovery I was under the impression that first I have to cleanse and detoxify and then heal my digestion. Well, it happens to be the other way around. Once your digestive tract is healed, and you are nourished, then your body does the detoxifying ON ITS OWN. wow! that was a great discovery! We always try to push all the possible detoxes we know of, but the truth is once your digestion is restored (at least to some point), your whole body starts actively detoxifying! If before I had to take time and do liver flush, now my liver does it mostly by itself just after a cup of apple juice and a cup of cascara tea. That's it. No more enemas, coffee enemas, glasses of bitter Epsom salt. It's amazing, we usually underestimate that our body is smart already, we push it too much. Did you know that there are specific days each month when our liver loves to clean itself out on its own, if it is given a chance, or course. Moon affects our cycles and certain days work better than others for specific organs and systems. I will write about Liver Cleansing in a separate thread.
So, thanks to GAPS diet, digestion has healed. I remember when on a vegan diet I heard Dr. Mercola interviewing Dr. Campbell, I thought that it was awful to tell people to eat meat to get healthy... Of course, I thought I knew better... and spend another year with all possible digestive sensitivities, fatigue, constant abdominal pain and brain fog. It took quite some time, humbleness, and over-coming my own "I'm right, she is wrong" attitude and actually get down to GAPS theory. GAPS was hard in the beginning, I felt I was deprived beyond anything... But that feeling was temporary, in about a month or two, I started noticing better sleep, less fatigue, less abdominal pain and less brain fog. And then, it wasn't hard at all.
It's true, it is very very hard to admit after being a vegan or vegetarian that you went in the wrong direction after you have already told all your friends and relatives that you are so much better in your diet than them... It takes courage and humbleness and it hurts to admit that you went wrong, you kind of have to step over yourself in some way and that is never easy.
I hope this thread would be useful for those who are vegetarian and are afraid to admit that it may be not the best way for their individual body type or for those who have started recovering on meat containing diet. Either way, thank you all here for your support and comments.

I have read about Hofmekler and think that one big meal a day makes a whole lot of sense when You want to give the body time to heal and nutrients.
Fasting is great because the body has time to heal while the digestion stops. But do You get enough nutrients?
The warrior style of eating gives You both.

Wow, all this time I thought some vegans get better when eating meat because meat is more calorie-dense, but the whole time it was because meat is just more lifeforce-dense. What a coincidence.
Look dear, when you come back down from the cosmic clouds, the reason people hate me is I don't coddle and enable people, I give true support by advocating what I believe is the ways to true healing and not bandaiding and some people just can't fess up to the truth about why they got sick or why they are not getting better.
Look at the people who hate me the most, those who developed problems on a calorie-restricted vegan or raw diet (whether intentional or accidental), having problems on a high-fat diet, and those who self-diagnosed themselves with parasites but all their tests come back negative and nothing they try rids what they think they have.
Hugs and kisses are great, but not when it encourages people to keep going down the wrong path.

I feel everyone offering any dietary advice should be allowed to post what they want and we, as thinking individuals, though some with brain fog, will be able to decide for themselves what is their best route toward full healing.
Actually I also totally agree with the substance of what she says about eating fruit in the day. If someone follows a normal schedule of earliy morning rising and 10 to 11 p.m. going to bed, I would say the calories and blood Sugar from the fruit is and the ease of digestion of same would be an ideal addition to the warrior diet and I do not think anyone should be censored from sharing their view.
Also I have read a lot of Natway's posts and the fact that you are tracking her sounds a little creepy to me and actually anti-freedom.

I have been here not so long, took part in a long discussion about ex-vegans and posted this thread and these couple days was already enough to be fed up with the comments of the "calorie-savvy" stinky-fruit-rider with severe phosphatidylcholine deficiency in the grey matter. "Tracking" is a big word for looking at two threads and seeing how much hostility this nut breeds here. Just reading two threads with at least a dozen comments about how he/she/it managed to piss so many people here is enough to see what's going on at this "democratic" place.
I personally don't know how you guys tolerate it. I don't. I don't have to. I don't like bullying and agreeing with bully-jerks is basically supporting anarchy and unlawful behavior. I don't support it and never will. If somebody feels it should be allowed, then we as well should allow all sorts of bullying, disrespectful behavior and so on and forget about order. That nut is lucky to be in this virtual reality where he/she can get away with all this, not in a street...perhaps it's the only place to allow such bullying... I have never seen forums that allow so much chaos. It feels like you are being punished for being helpful.. how weird...
By being so polite and attempting being so called "politically correct" so many of you here silently allow abuse, being abused as well as the abuser get away away with it. What a shame... shame on moderators as well.
But the great thing is, it just dawned on me - personal website with blog and only allowed comments is the only solution to share the ideas that were born in scrutiny, hard work, long and painful recovery as well as solid academic basis. Having intelligent conversations here is like having them in a bar, where there is too much loud music, and occasionally somebody smart perhaps will be able to hear you and start a great conversation, and then you both suddenly get "punched" in the face by some bully for absolutely no reason.
I started posting here as a means of being grateful to whatever info here I found here (in addition to everything else I read and studied). But it seems this place with all its so-called democracy is not maintained with respect and professionalism. what a shame... it could be a rare opportunity for people to actually learn something useful.
This forum allows an atmosphere of chaos, anarchy and disrespect, and is far from being supportive to a few intelligent folks here whom I met. I don't allow being bullied, if it still happens, I can surely get over it, but when I see good folks being abused and attacked here for no reason, I simply lose it. I cannot control anger when I see innocent helpful people being disrespected, attacked, and abused and therefore I find this place far from being a place that is worth putting too much effort and heart into. it simply not worth it. There are no authoritative educated leaders here to whom the attacked folks can talk to and ask for protection. How come? what is a moderator's job here? to sit back and watch bullying?
building a personal website will surely give me a chance to keep order, respect and will allow peaceful respectful sharing on ideas in the comments section. Those who have intelligent ideas here, kind hearts and sincere will to help others will be surely invited. I'd love to continue all the great conversations we started here. Bullies can stay here and enjoy being pampered into further degenerative behavior.
