Hi Everyone,
I'd like to give up coffee as I really think it's making me too jittery and wired and it's also not good for my digestion. I'm a bit worried though about caffeine withdrawal headaches and think I'll miss the taste of it.
I'm not a big coffee drinker but I do have it pretty much every day, usually one in the morning and sometimes one early afternoon. I realize it's an addiction and I'd really like to hear from anyone who has given it up successfully. Is there anything you can do to minimize the headaches and come off it easier and what did you drink instead?

This is a reply to # 2,100,871With the amount you drink you shouldn't get to big a withdrawal. Switch to caffeine free, you won't even notice, I drink about 10 coffees a day, now that's addicted!

I tried to stop (cold turkey) my 2 cups a day and within 24 hours started having terrible headaches and nausea... almost to the point of vomiting.
The key is to slowly taper down your caffeine consumption... so the body doesn't notice it as much.
For example, you could try to have your regular cup in the morning but then only half a cup in the afternoon. Then when you've done that for a couple of weeks, you could try to have decaf in the afternoon. Then you could move to a half a cup of regular coffee in the morning, and eventually decaf (or none) in the morning.
Another option is to buy decaf and regular and mix them together so you still feel like you are getting your coffee... or you can buy the "half caff" stuff. Same thing.
Basically, to avoid the side effects, its definitely best to taper it down over the course of several months.
Unfortunately, I've quit caffeine probably 5 times and after a few months end up thinking "Why did I do that? I love caffeine!" And now I'm trying to quit AGAIN.

This is a reply to # 2,101,159I went from owning an espresso machine which I used religiously to drinking no coffee at all and no caffeine. I did not have any problems with headaches even though I depended so heavily on caffeine. But as the previous poster noted, biochemistries vary from person to person.
So you may need to taper down, using decaf if you get headaches. Drink lots of water also to flush your system out and help you get rid of the toxins.
You might also want to add an adaptogen like eleuthero (siberian ginseng) which can not only give you energy but help support your adrenal system which will be going bonkers. It's nonaddictive and safe.
Let me underscore - however - how good I feel without caffeine in my life. Even on days when I get only a few hours of sleep, I've learned to use water, exercise, and fresh foods to stay alert and focused. It's so worth it to get out of this destructive false energy roller coaster.Advertisement

I'm glad to hear you were able to give up coffee without the problems most people talk about and I agree it is a false energy rollercoaster. Sometimes it feels more like I'm drinking it only to get more anxious than energized.
Can I ask how do think is the best way to take the siberian ginseng?
