I think my doctor wanted me to get total 1000mg a day of Calcium. To be brutally honest, I have been terrible about keeping up with Calcium supplements.
I can add sardines and extra greens to my diet, but the other foods on that list are off limits due to my dietary restrictions. I estimate that I can get about 500mg calcium through food alone, so maybe I will supplement 500mg/day until I start to heal and can tolerate new foods.
Also I have an unrelated question.
I read that vitamin C can act as an Antibiotic and I thought it would help with the infection in my gut, so yesterday I started a very large dose.
The excess vitamin C caused me to have very uncomfortable lower back pain, which I realized must be my kidneys. I think months of undetected fructose malabsorption must have made them weak.
I assume Iodine will help with this but I thought this but I also thought I should try to do some kind of cleanse/flush.
I've never done a cleanse before, so I was wondering if you know anything that could point me in the right direction?

Sorry but I am extremely skeptical of liver & kidney flushes. So I am not the person to ask. I say that the liver & kidneys know how to flush themselves if given a decent Paleo Diet. There are forums at the curezone for liver & kidney flushes that will be happy to get you on the bandwagon. IMO a clean Paleo Diet with distilled or mineral water is the best way for clean organs. Vitamin C should be taken to bowel tolerance for best results. The best is Sodium Ascorbic or Ascorbic Acid.

This is a reply to # 2,189,995Been to the doctor today and seems my kidney pain might actually be caused by a UTI that's gotten to my kidneys. Waiting for culture now to confirm. Probably coincidental that I started vitamin C at the same time as the pain began. Restarting vitamin C today in high doses. Kidney/ Liver Flush probably unnecessary. What is your urine & saliva ph levels? They should be in the 6.5 to 7.2 range. If well below that range, then the traditional cure is to change your diet to make yourself more alkaline. You can also add baking soda or potassium bicarbonate to your water. Details here:

This is a reply to # 2,190,494Woke up today with really intense back pains and chills (no fever.) Wondered if I had acidosis and tried drinking vinegar. Pain was much improved and chills gone a few hours after drinking vinegar but my doc still sent me to the ER where all my results came back totally NORMAL. My urine pH was also exactly 7.0 - close to ideal! Saliva not tested. Only weird thing was I had ketones in my urine. Still have lingering back pain but overall feeling ok.
Started to wonder if this sudden severe back pain really was caused by vitamin C as I had two episodes of severe pain both immediately after taking 4000+mg of vitamin C. I wonder if my SIBO could be interfering with my absorption somehow and lowering my tolerance. Strange that I didn't have diarrhea, which I've heard is usually the first symptom of vitamin C overdose.
My doctors are totally baffled by the pain in my back, which got worse after eating (acidic foods) and the fact that vinegar helped my pain. I'm not really sure how to explain it to them, either. It doesn't help that my regular doctors are all on vacation so all the docs I've seen are people I've never met before. Still not really sure what this all means in the context of my chronic health issues.
Sorry, I think you misunderstood me when I said I didn't see any improvement in my condition. I meant that I didn't see improvement in my UTI symptoms when taking Iodine so it must not actually be a UTI. Turns out I do not have a UTI so you were right.
I have already been fighting with chronic conditions for more than two years (much shorter than some) but I am not ready to give up the fight. If it takes 6 months, 12 months, or even 12 years to heal, I will do whatever it takes. I refuse to let my body go to waste just because the doctor doesn't know what's wrong, and I am profoundly grateful for your help.- Re: SIBO caused by fructose malabsor... grizz

Where does your back hurt? Maybe I can think of something.
Also never give in to the Sickness Industry.
We win by eating natural foods and clean distilled or mineral water.
The thing most of us do is to stop all supplements for a few weeks, to see if your problem goes away. Then re-introduce 1 supplemnt at a time to see which was your problem.

This is a reply to # 2,190,685I am pretty sure that vitamin C was the problem since my back pain is continuing to get better after discontinuing vitamin C only.
My SIBO (still undiagnosed but fairly certain it's SIBO) turns Sugar (including natural sugars from fruits and veggies) into acid, which causes me a similar back pain, although much milder than when I took vitamin C. Maybe this pain is some kind of metabolization issue? It seems kind of uncommon to have back pain as a reaction to acid, yes?
The pain is in my mid-lower back, sometimes worse on one side than the other. Maybe it could be some kind of inflammation? My muscles are also really tense. I'll try stretching as well.
I am trying to meet with my GI as soon as possible because I want to try anti-biotics for SIBO. Recently there is a new Antibiotic that does not have any effects outside the intestine which is very effective for SIBO.
Problem with SIBO is that the relapse rate is very high. I'm hoping Iodine will help with that. And once my gut is in order, hopefully any metabolization issues will heal naturally as well.
As for the list of foods that are poisoning us, my body can tell me just as well as that list can. I am so sensitive to toxins in my gut that I can tell the difference between farmed salmon and wild salmon within a few hours after eating. I used to suffer many illness but not any more. Between Vitamin D3, Iodine & our mostly Paleo diet, my wife & I are rarely sick with anything.
For decades, I used to suffer the most terrible chest colds every winter & spring. Not any more. I also recently cured my Candida Asthma with high doses of iodine. No more asthma inhalers! YAY. Story here:

I am now suspecting back pain is caused by my gallbladder. Still have mild~moderate pain which sometimes localizes in the gallbladder area but it moves around. Feel especially bad after eating fats - bloated, tired, foggy, thirsty. Going to try to get an ultrasound as soon as possible. Still afraid to try large doses of vitamin C again as pain has not totally subsided. Have been awoken from sleep the past three nights by severe pain which became tolerable after drinking vinegar each time. Going out to buy gallbladder supplements today (lecithin, HCl w/ pepsin, curcumin, and fiber supplements) to see if that helps. This is a reply to # 2,191,057There are many treatments to clear the gallbladder.
Vegetarians or people not eating enough fatty meats typically develop painful gall stones & get their gall bladder removed. The gallblader will fill up with junk & stones if not used. One reason that I like to take 3 tablespoons of coconut oil each day & olive oil in my salads - to keep my gall bladder active... also bacon.
The old saying, if you don't use it you will lose it really applies to the gall bladder. The gall bladder squirts bile into our intestines to dissolve fat. There are many gall bladder flushes to be found in a google search.

I looked up the gold coin grass used for softening the Gallstones in the flush you linked, and apparently it is actually a Chinese herb called jin-qian-cao used for liver and gallbladder health. Today I went to a local Chinese herb shop and was recommended a supplement called Lidan which contains a variety of herbs including that one. Can you believe it was only 6 USD? The man at the herb shop told me I should start feeling better after about 5 days. That would be like a miracle! So cheap and fast!! Of course I also plan to continue with the flush after using the herbs, but at this point I am just excited to be pain free. I've just taken the first dose tonight and I'm feeling positive. Thanks again for your help!

Been to the doctors again and it seems there is absolutely nothing wrong with my gallbladder or any of my organs. I had an ultrasound and they checked EVERYTHING.
I'm still having pain but I don't have any gallstones, just a lot of bloating and strange lower back pain after eating. So I'm sorry to say I can't give you any reviews on the gallbladder herbs.
Now I'm thinking these symptoms are the horrible consequences of SIBO escalating more and more. I literally don't have any safe foods left and I always feel terrible after meals. I'm seeing the gastroenterologist tomorrow so hopefully she can offer some treatment options to turn things around.
Continuing Iodine and companions along with immune boosting supplements for now. Keeping my fingers crossed that I can find an effective treatment.- Re: SIBO caused by fructose malabsor... grizz

That is great news.
I also take 10,000 IU Vitamin D3 and 3 tablespoons of coconut oil daily.
The D3 cured my annual chest cold nightmare about 8 years ago. The coconut oil prevents painful stools and the Iodine cured my prostate & asthma.
50mg of iodoral cured my prostate, and 800mg of SSKI most recently cured my asthma.
I now consider myself cured of Candida. I can eat or drink anything without consequences, and I can breath freely without those damned expensive inhalers.

I dream of the day when I can eat or drink anything I want! My diet is extremely restricted, and I still feel terrible!
After a lot of labs that came back normal, I put some thought into it and tried changing around my diet. I noticed that I feel much better when I take vinegar and HCl supplements with meals and concluded I have low stomach acid, which I think probably caused SIBO. I've been popping those HCl tabs like candy.
I read on your page that Iodine is great for stomach acid and I'm hoping to see improvement, but things are very slow. I can't really titrate up much because my thyroid starts to feel like a golf ball lodged in my throat. Currently at two drops 2% Lugols daily. I'm taking all the required supplements, including 600mcg of Selenium. Maybe I need to take more salt with iodine? Any advice?
I've also read that low stomach acid/hypothyroid symptoms would benefit from methylation supplements. I'm thinking of starting TMG, a B6/B12/folate supplement, and Zinc. Maybe this will jump start acid production in my stomach while I wait for the benefits of iodine?

Cut your iodine use to once per week (pulse dosing) & do the salt flush for several days until your thyroid feels normal again, then resume your original dosage. This is a reply to # 2,189,909The kidney cleansing herbs that Andreas Moritz recommends in his liver/gallbladder flush book saved my life recently in terms of lower back pain caused by kidney stones! I highly recommend them, they seemed to start working almost immediately upon drinking them.
Moritz believed we get kidney stones by having a backed up liver/galbladder which is very common in our over acidic bodies. People of all diets (meat and vegetarian eaters) can get gallstones.- Re: Calcium and vit C margo11
