I haven't posted in a few months so thought I'd share an update. I've been taking Iodine for about 9-10 months now. I am also taking :
600mcg selenium
2ATP cofactors
500mg glutathione
15,000IU Vit D
500mg L-tyrosine
10mg methylated B12
8,000mg Vit C (taken separately from Iodine throughout the day)
800mg magnesium (taken before bed)
I also started taking nutrimeds desiccated Porcine thyroid supplement and also their adrenal cortex supplement. I just recently added in a second desiccated thyroid pill. (Before I was taking just one a day of each). My last lab tests revealed my iron was low so I've also started taking 250mg iron and also am taking LactoFerrin.
Another benefit I've experienced that just happened in the last 4 months is I've magically lost about 15lbs. I did not change my diet or exercise regimen whatsoever, the weight just started melting off. My muscle tone seems better too and I'm almost on my way to six pack...seriously! I'm assuming this is from the iodine?? No idea but I'm loving it. Also still no more breast tenderness, painful periods or anything of the sort. I sleep better, more energy etc. My goiter is STILL here and huge. The size still fluctuates but lately it's been larger than ever. I stayed at about 300mg for a while. I decreased to 50mg daily to see how I felt, I honestly feel like I need at least 100mg to feel good, 50mg did not seem like enough. For now I'm back at 200mg daily. My question is..where do I go from here? Is there some other approach I can take to shrinking my goiter? I don't know if I should stop or increase Iodine or reduce.... I got an appointment with Dr Flechas but his first available appointment was not til the end of January, so for now I'm waiting to see him, but wondered if anyone had any input?

that would NOT be an ASSinine ASSumption.
goiter is a swelling of the tissue. edema can be caused by dehydration and drought.
water, sodium and potassium. hit the basics. hit the antioxidants hard. vitamin
C. even try to supplement oxygen.
the only other thing i can think of is if there is an herb that might help or perhaps fasting.
the master herbalist textbook mentions bayberry, burdock, oak and poke for goiter.

This is a reply to # 2,209,988I was searching for info on goiter recently because I suspect the lump in my throat that started 3 months ago that I was blaming on allergies just might be a swollen thyroid. Iodine supplementing has taken the swollen lump feeling out of my throat.. starting almost instantly.. it's only come back once since but now im noticibg that I have a bump on my neck now... I can't tell if it's swollen thyroid or just looks that way because I have a skinny neck. Never noticed it before.. but I wasn't looking either.
From some of the stuff I've read, some say that if goiter is caused by Iodine deficiency, supplementing should make it go back down.. tben some others say there is no way to shrink it back... it needs to be removed?? I don't want to believe that.
I have nothing to even base mine on. I had a TSH level of 3.77 in March 2013 but nothing done recently and my swelling came out of nowhere.. I suspect I know what caused it, but it doesn't make sense WHY.
That's assuming it even is goiter/thyroid and not something else in ny throat swelling.
Have you noticed any environmental factors or eating certain foods play a roll in the increased swelling?
What I question isn't stopping the iodine, but wondering if one of the supplements like selenium should be increased... or something else added.. like L- tyrosine to help the thyroid use it more efficiently?

This is a reply to # 2,210,107I already taken selenium, at least 400mcg but I usually take 600mcg. And I am already taking L Tyrosine.
I've scrounged the internet for information on instances when goiter is caused by something other than Iodine deficiency but I've been unable to find anything aside from some kind of infection but I would think if that was the cause Iodine would help with that anyway. The swelling in my neck was first noticed when I was about 3 years old, I'm 31 now so I would think I have A LOT of healing to do still. My two nieces who are 2 and 4 also have puffy swollen necks but my sister already started them on Iodine and theirs has improved already....
I've been gluten free for many years now, grain free and eat limited amounts of dairy and sugar. I also do not eat soy which causes a lot of digestive problems for me and also headaches.

I don't have goiter but I can say that taking 50mg of iodoral did nothing for my asthma. When I started experimenting with large doses of SSKI, I noticed an immediate improvement in my asthma. For the 1st time in 30 years, I don't need any more VERY EXPENSIVE inhalers.
SSKI is 30mg per drop. I suggest starting with a squirt per day (about 400mg). Maybe your thyroid will react like my lungs did, I think it is worth a try. It can't hurt.
So I continue to take 50mg iodoral and I take 2 squirts of SSKI daily (about 800mg).PS) One of my favorite sources of information, Wicki said this: " If goiter is untreated for around five years, however, iodine supplementation or thyroxine treatment may not reduce the size of the thyroid gland because the thyroid is permanently damaged."

This is a reply to # 2,210,123Also consider, as you have lost some weight; the goiter stayed the same size as before, just more visible as the rest of you is smaller. Neck, face and shoulders is about the first to show weight loss.
One month per year you have had the illness, is how long it takes to get well / cured if you have the right remedy. This is what my teachers told me at school. I found this to be pretty accurate.
As long as you feel good and things are improving on the iodine/glandulars I wouldnt worry to much. Maybe the swelling is there to stay for a while longer, same as with a calcified joint or inflamed tissue.
Acupuncture may help.

This is a reply to # 2,210,153That sounds scary if your thyroid is permanently damaged, but is that really true? That would be like saying someone who is obese can never be skinny again ... Am I wrong? I'm a believer that all things can turn around in time.
I suspect you've had this problem for awhile, it still may take some time for this to shrink down. The fact that you are losing weight is a great sign to me, I am no doctor, but the experiences I've had ... this would be a great indicator something is working.
You've actually encouraged me. I think I will start taking L-tyrosine to see what happens. I say keep your head up and stay positive, you are on the right track!

This is a reply to # 2,210,303Just a thought Celtori, I am not assuming you drink wine, but if you do, I've researched that most wine comes from California and are heavily fluoridated due to their water and a pesticide called, Cryolite. Wines from Washington State and Oregon claim to have a lot less fluoride.

SSKI is a term for "Super Saturated Potassium Iodide." It is made by saturating distilled water with Potassium Iodide Crystals. When the water won't take up any more then it is super saturated & the crystals are removed to make another batch. SSKI is typically 30mg per drop.
Lugols on the other hand contains both Iodine and potassium Iodide in the correct ratio to supply all the organs of the body.
Lugols is bitter & SSKI tastes much smoother. SSKI is clear in color.

Iodide (SSKI) is preferred by the following:
* Lungs
* Thyroid needs 3% prefers iodide
* Skin needs 20% and prefers iodide
* Salivary Glands prefer iodide
Iodine (Lugols) is preferred by the following:
* Muscles (650mg) and fat needs(700mg iodine) 70%
* Breast tissue needs 3-5 mg / day minimum and prefers iodine
* Prostate prefers iodine
* Stomach prefers iodine
* Ovaries prefer iodine
kidneys, spleen, liver, blood, & intestines can use either form
The entire body stores 1500 mg 1.5 gm total

This is a reply to # 2,210,303Hi! I am 60 years old, I have 5 goiters around my thyroid, had my 1st one shrunk at the age of 19 with radioactive iodine. That left a scar on my thyroid. Please check with a soecialist re: unexpected weight loss. I am not trying to scare you, but I am a survivor of an unsurvivable cancer for 44 years now. It created hyperthyroidism, which led to Mitral valve Prolapse, and now am hypothyroid status. I was reading this because of the psoriasis issue. This is one thing I have never had before. I have never taken care of what I ate, because nearly all my life the doctors told me I didn't have much longer to live. Please tell me, if you can, why Betadine will not help psorasis. Mine is in my scalp in the back...it is very itchy and painful. Bless you fir sharing!

This is a reply to # 2,210,123the amount of elemental Iodine in 50mg of Lugols is historically enough to address all the deficiency syndromes such as FBD and PCOS and even high PSA numbers for the prostate. i also think its plenty of elemental, especially if it is magnetized in some way. Lugols is a serious substance.
and even though this form of Iodine is like medicine and Iodide is like food, if the body is deficient it will use the elemental for food as evidences by all elemental Iodine being out of serum in two hours flat - it peaks and then leaves. i guess no one knows if it is absorbed directly or if it is converted but still in circulation. the elemental doesnt last long. and it is harsh.
so the key is to feed the body with plenty of KI so that the elemental is more available to do the other things like pick up potassium from the nodules on the ovaries.

and yes Grizz ... CA wine from what I have researched is fluoridated to the hilt...
I do enjoy wine and search for Washington State, Oregon, Italian wines .. just my preference from my research. I've noticed Chardonnay does not do well with me at all. I can tell it affects my thyroid and my whole body for that matter. I can't explain, but it does weird things like night sweats, heart palpitations ... not pleasant experience at all. There is something in it that I am extremely sensitive to...
But again, thanks for the SSKI info ... I am super excited to add this to my list of healthy "goodies" I take every morning.- Re: 9 month update grizz

It's when I started to add SSKI , did I see improvement in my hyperthyroid. The elemental in Lugols helped with the other glands down yonder.
If I was strictly trying to improve thyroid health, I would go with mostly SSKI , and add in some elemental/Lugols (~50mg). This is what worked for me.
I reached 6 grams a day for a bit just to play around. I just went by how I felt.- Re: 9 month update celtori

For what it is worth, I think you are doing everything right. Also do not be afraid of taking large doses of SSKI . Prior to WWII, doctors routinely prescribed dosages up to 1.8 GRAMS of SSKI .
However they hid the common name by calling it Pima. You can Google Pima to learn more about this. Old time doctors (mostly retired now) still prescribe Pima, mostly for lung problems.
