I have been meaning to do this for a long time, but life is crazy now that I have a son....
I was once fairly active here, and started my Iodine journey in fall of 2012. You should be able to see my history by clicking my name, if it still works that way. Anyways, II was suffering lots of hypo symptoms and infertility, with three lost pregnancies. I jumped in with my supplementation and took an aggressive route, with full co-supps and other simultaneous lifestyle changes, including switching to a weston a price type of diet and juicing.
i went through a pretty bad detox, but after about a year of my regimen i started noticing my hypo symptoms were at bay (fatigue, foggy brain, low body temp primarily). This was also the time that i conceived my son and what turned out to be our first successful pregnancy. This little baby is so strong and alert and has been since day one. He is very communicative and engaging, and the love of my life. Now if Iodine could just do something about my severe sleep deprivation. I did drop down my dosage once pregnant, and was taking about 50 mg a day. I did have horrible morning sickness and wasn't good about taking anything during the first 16 weeks, but I trust my body had a supply and my son got what he needed during that time. I am nursing him and taking about 50 mg still.
Are GinaGirl and Trapper still active? I'd love for them to see this update :)

Wow! this is an amazing story. Yours is another example that proves that we are what we eat and what our parents ate.
Did you take any other supplements before you conceived? If so, what were they?
Yes, Ginagirl and Trapper are active on this and other forums too. I got great help from them.

This is a reply to # 2,230,780In my regimen is lots of high quality fats daily (coconut oil, fermented cod liver oil, high vitamin butter from green pastures) and I removed all vegetable oils, and basically all processed food save for my occasional treats. I've been gluten free for 5 years. I also eat fermented foods like kefir, saurkraut (sp?) and kombucha made at home. My meat (beef, chicken, some pork) comes from a local, known source. All dairy has been raw since about the same time as starting iodine. I know these aren't "supplements" per se, but food is my medicine.
I did take borax, zinc, optimized folate (i have MTHFR defects), and probiotics in addition to the co-supps. I had all Amalgams removed 9-18 months before conceiving. Basically a major health overhaul enhanced by iodine.

This is a reply to # 2,230,824Thank you for answering my questions. I am trying to help a friend who is having a hard time getting pregnant and she had three miscarriages. I always tell her about food very important and also happy thoughts, but I never thought of Iodine, which I take regularly. She badly needs Iodine, now I know this because she feels cold a lot and lack of appetite, etc tells me she does. But we will have her start with basal temperature and check for sure if she is Hypo or not.

I am following the protocol and have been thinking of adding fermented cod liver oil. Thanks for your detailed answer, did you take the cod liver oil and high vitamin butter oil separately or in combination. How is the taste of the fermented cod liver oil?

i like the cinnamon tingle flavor the best, my husband likes the mint, and my son likes the mint better than plain. i have given him the FCLO since he was 4 mos

About your sleep deprivation; if it is your son keeping you awake, I cannot help much:)
But I have had my share of insomnia for many years, adrenal related in my case. What fixed it was loads of salt, lately potassium, and finally getting my magnesium levels up to par. Vit C, B, also important for the adrenals. All along with iodine.
After giving birth, my adrenals was in a high alert state for a long time. My sons also had inherited my magnesium deficiency at that time, they were no good sleepers until 2-3 years of age.
This may contribute to the sleep deprivation of yours. As the birth experience for some women get you into a "high" and the fact of being responsible for such a precious being make us too alert at all times.

Unfortunately my sleep dep is primarily due to my son waking frequently to nurse, he just turned 6 months so this is developmentally appropriate yet debilitating none the less. There are times where I find it hard to fall asleep even once he is, so good point on relaxation techniques. I am going to try some basic yoga in the evening to 'wind down'. There are so many changes and yes like you said the 'high alert' state, while great for caring for my son, is taking a toll on my body.
Is magnesium linked to sleep? Perhaps I need to reassess my magnesium intake and try to increase the supply in my breastmilk.- Re: iodine update Ginagirl

This is a reply to # 2,230,828Yes, I recommend it. My sons was low in magnesium until I gave them supplements. If he wakes up more than 1-2 times at night this may be due to it. And you need it too, most probably:)
The adrenals are very sensitive to the alert stage. For many years I couldnt sleep if it was the slightest disturbance; even the joy of having a baby, finally. (had 3 miscarriages myself)- Re: iodine update SlownSteady

This is a reply to # 2,230,833thanks for the tip Gina :) i have started transdermal magnesium. my son wakes on average every two hours, hoping me having the magnesium in the breastmilk will help. i also rubbed some on his little feet and tummy and he giggled :) will probably continue that too

This is a reply to # 2,232,506I am brand new here and just started the Iodine protocol. I also purchased Mag Oil and discovered that my skin was starting to burn every time I used it. I was using it after every "iodine painting". Can anyone advise on the proper timing and amount of Mag Oil?
Also, how do people paint the Iodine on their skin? Hands? Mine are now stained and my wedding ring is stained. Any other tips?

This is a reply to # 2,230,828i listen to sounds of rain, ocean waves, forest and bird sounds etc on my mp3 player and it helps me relax and go to sleep. amazon has like 60 minute "albums" or recordings of these nature sounds for 99 cents or so and a few free ones too.
