Hello all!
I was diagnosed with temporary/mild Depression and took Zoloft, then Wellbutrin, and then Effexor for almost 5 years. It took me TWO years to get diagnosed. ARGH.
I wanted to throw my story out because maybe it will help someone else.
When the Effexor started making me crazy...saw the face of the devil, having horrific nightmares....I knew it was time to try a natural approach. I went to an herb shop in Conroe, TX about an hour away from me called Herbal Connection. My sister recommended it to me and said they can do an analysis on you. I drove over, took the assessment, they plugged it into their computer and it spit out a report that changed my life and how I looked at Depression forever. Carol didn't even know I was there because of depression...she looked at my report and a 'package' of vitamins I was severely low in and asked if I was on antidepressants because they deplete vitamins. I about fell on the floor! Long story short, I was dangerously low in 8 vitamins, my digestive, eliminative, thyroid, adrenals were all under functioning as well. A month into taking supplements to build my body up I felt great and started to wean off of Effexor. If any of you have weaned off Effexor, you know it's worse than anything... my doctor told me I'd be on it for the rest of my life. When I tried to discuss problems I had read about on the internet about Effexor he blew me off and I knew it was time to take my health in my own hands and "fire him." I started to notice I didn't need the herbal antidepressant anymore so I cut back. That was Dec. 05 - May 05. In May I started to see a Naturopathic doctor in Bryan, TX. My gut told me something was still wrong with me, my family and friends thought I was crazy...my first blood test revealed severe candida, heavy metal toxicity, fiberous tumors, liver problems, kidney problems...etc. I have been on Chinese herbs to target each problem... so far I have kicked the candida and my tumors are gone. Liver Flushes (thanks to curezone.com) are currently correcting many other things!
Anyway, there was NO history of Depression in my family. Mine came from extreme workplace stress which helped my vitamins go bye-bye.
Don't give up! Keep fighting... Listen to your body! Mine was telling me things for years but I just didn't listen! Curezone and you fabulous people taught me HOW!

Your story helped me. It's terrible how much medicine I'm on. I've been on one or another anti-depressant after another for 8 years now. Blood pressure went up, thyroid went down, more meds for that. It makes sense now.
I had Breast Cancer too. I need to learn how to live properly.

I NEVER thought I would be off antidepressants but my gut instinct rarely leads me wrong...I am glad I listened to it. :) It isn't a fast process to correct what's been done to your body but in the long run, you'll be healthier and happier.
I wish you the best of luck with your journey. Know you have many cheerleaders here supporting you!

I was on Paxil, Effexor and Wellbutrin over the span of 8 years.
No Depression in the family. Mine was caused by chronic stress in
an abusive marriage.
I couldn't understand why I wasn't getting better after leaving.
I did improve off and on. Deep breathing was a BIG help.
Omega-3 I started. Then the more research....the more I was adding.
I'm on Borage, Flax, Krill and Fish.
I've never felt better!
I have no aches or pains. I don't nap anymore. No mood swings.
No PMS. No meds!
I'm feeding my brain finally. And what's ironic is I had first
put my son on fish oil because he was diagnosed ADD.

Could you let me know what you've found to work?

I'm fortunate that mine from the age
of 10 can swallow the gelcaps of oil.
I believe there are flavoured ones.
Any chance of mixing some in juice?
I know it's tough.
The important thing I found was GLA
That's high in Borage oil. Being a plant
it's easier to tolerate over fish oil.
What you really have to watch for are some
of the 'mixed blends'. They have a good combination,
but in reality you must take multiple capsules a day
to work.
Depending on his age and weight you should be able
to find out how much he needs.
My son is over 100 pounds so he can handle most adult
doses. If you son is smaller and younger, probably 1/2.
My son is on 1000mg fish oil, and 1000mg Borage every morning.
BUT....BUT....we also changed things in his diet. Hidden MSG
in snacks. Certain food colourings, additives etc. That was
actually half the battle right there.
The other thing is the natural energy of boys is being treated
as a disorder. My son and yours are probably quite normal!
Just because they can't sit still in school all day doesn't
mean there's something wrong.

This is a reply to # 23,033My son is six and 50-55 pounds. When he was real little I gave him these chocolate flavored DHA gelcaps that he loved but I stopped buying them because they were expensive. He has attempted to swallow pills for me but can't yet.
I have just recently tried fish oil in their oatmeal but no go. I couldn't even stand it. I use to take borage oil for my diabetes but as usual money takes over.
I have been taking my two to a DAN doctor because of a metabolic disorder that both have. Their breath smells like acetone, fingernail polisher remover, if they don't get enough carbs. The oldest has sleep apnea and still wets the bed. When he does, his urine smells like maple syrup. The youngest breath at times smells like corn. I know it's not corn because I don't give them corn because of mold. She has them both on about seven different supplements based on organic urine testing we did. And, I have seen improvements in both sons language and development.
My six year old, homeschooled, has attention problems to the point that I don't think he would do well in school. He does good with me one-on-one but I see the problems when we go to church or are in a group setting. He doesn't have any true friends and kids shy away from him. :(
I bought some flaxseed tonight at the health food store, and I'm going to get a coffee grinder and put it in their yogurt.
My son has allergies and we've taken both off of milk, but they get milk in other products. I don't know much about Mono-Sodium-Glutamat (Natrium Glutamat) so I need to check into that.
I agree with the "natural energy of boys" because they mature slower than girls but are expected to act like girls.
I know I jumped around but my mind is racing with thoughts. Sorry. :)

Just in case, I have to take Zoloft in order to keep my job, your kind opinion is greatly appreciated. This is a reply to # 22,962Sounded like my story of depression, probably all you needed was probiotics. I new i had bacterial overgrowth cuz of my digestive problems and my food allergy . But thats good youre over that hellish depression
