I have RSD. I've had it now for 5 1/2 years. I've done unbelivable numbers of treatments trying to get this in remission. Currently I'm working with a reflexologist/ND. I've been with him for about 8 weeks. I'm am not any better, in fact I'm feel worse, but he seems to think that I'm detoxing. Anyone have any ideas? I am very sorry you are sufferring from this, I all to well know what you are going through as my Mother has had RSD for a long time, and I also live with much pain daily.
Her Rheumatologist suggested Acupuncture, but there are many different opinions, and everyone is different.
Recently while I was seeing my Osteopath, I asked him about RSD.
What he said amazed me, he said that RSD is related to the Parasympathetic and Sympathetic System, and that he can treat it.
He said that basically, it is a more severe case of what I have, Fibromyalgia.
I did not ask him more at that time, but I plan too!
In any case, he is an Osteopath with much experience, and also Holistic Medicine.
I would seek out a 'good' Osteopath, in Holistic Medicine, and see what he can do for you, and please let me know how it goes!

Hi there. I've had complex regional pain syndrome since April 2006 after fracturing a bone in my hand and then being put in a cast for four weeks, which shouldn't have happened. I haven't returned to work since and a return to work is some time off yet. I wasn't prescribed any medication until 7 1/2 months after the onset. I'm on my second medication (Neurontin, as the side effects from the first medication Amitriptyline were dreadful). I've been having twice weekly osteopathic treatment since late May 2006. I've learnt so much from my wonderful osteo and also from searching the internet about the condition. It's important to understand what's going on, to understand the condition as best you and try something more natural. My osteo works on my back, neck, head, shoulder, chest, muscles and more, all sorts of things as it's like a "chain" and all are connected. So my advice would be to search out an osteo in your area, and you'll be amazed at the difference. Also, a change to diet could be helpful, together with trying to minimise stress levels, try to stay positive. There is no known cure but with the right help we can learn to live with the condition. Yes, a hot shower helps but not long. Massage helps,not long.
I have from not much helps.
Has your dr ever suggessted other meds? Neurontin, Soma, cymbalta,reflan, any pain meds such as ultram, talwin,oxycontin, darvocet, there are many others.
Has he mentioned a stellate block, beir block?
Ask him about theses or do research online for others.
I have had stellste & Beir blocks.Great relief stopped the pain for a period.
I now have a doral cord stimulator that blocks the burning pain.I still need block ever so often,but to stop the burning it was worth it to me.
I also have a journal I keep daily of my pain level
I will put you in my prayers. I do hope you get relief soon or it can progress.

Hello, I have been told I too have RSD. The only thing I found that helps me is paraffin treatments so, I bought one and use it all the time, especially in the winter months. I usually do this before I go to sleep so I can sleep through the night or when I feel my nerves are bouncing off the wall... I also have heard of acupuncture but haven't tried it. Massages work well and I get them when I can.

This is a reply to # 415,078I haven't tried parafin. However I am studying for my Naturapathic Doctor and I've come upon a homeopathy medicines that has helps 3 RSD sufferers. I'll let you know how it works for me. The acupuncture helped some. Make sure you get a good acupuncturist. Also if you can find someone who does energy work that has helped me also. But so far I am not pain free. There had to be something to get this in remission and I'm going to find it. Five and a half years is just too long to live like this.

This is a reply to # 415,079I would be interested to hear about what you will be trying...and what you would be doing as a Naturapathic Doctor? I was diagnosed 9 years ago after an injury. I have tried TENS unit was - ok very, incovenient = acupunture seems scary to me?? Paraffin made an instant and dramatic difference. It was the only thing that would calm my nerves enough to do any type of physical therapy. Let me know if you try paraffin and what you thought?

I am now on the incurables program of Dr. Schulze to see if i can further my pain reduction
I wrote a ebook on my experiance if you are interested i do have to charge not enough income to make it through the month

I was diagnosed in 1994 after an accident. Pain management is very important to be able to get through everyday life and the only thing that would soothe the pain for me, was paraffin. Paraffin is hot wax heat therapy. For application, quickly dip the body area into the melted paraffin wax and remove immeditatey. This should be repeated 6 to 10 times. Then wraped in plastic and cover with a towel or blanket for a few hours. I can immediately feel the comfort and sometimes fall asleep before I peal it off. This is also great for the skin - making it silky smooth and does come in aromatherapy scents as well. I purchased the bath that I have at a beauty supplies outlet and the wax. Some beauty salons or spas offer the treatment or you can find it where I receive my first experience, in physical therapy.
I hope this information will be beneficial to you. What types of therapy have you tried?

Thankyou for your response. I've just recently been diagnosed with RSD within the last month so what had happened was that somehow I had a herniated disk in my lower back and it took 7 doctors and 6 months to figure out what was wrong with me so they did a diskectomy and that didn't work so 5 months later they did a spinal fusion and that didn't work for me so my surgeon sent me to my pain care specialists and he tried epidural steroid injections in my back and that didn't work and I also had been going to physical therapy after both surgeries which was very painful. So now my pain care dr. said that he thought that I had it all the time but he wanted to try the shots anyway just incase it would give me some kind of relief. I'm trying to read as much as I can right now about it and I've been putting up with the pain for a little over a year and a half now which I know that is not a lot when you've spoke to people who have been dealing with it for a lot of years like you have. The next thing I am going to try is the physical therapy in the swimming pool above 90 degrees, I've heard that that has helped a lot of people and I will hope and pray for remission.
I'm also trying a new doctor right now his web site is www.headandneckclinic.com and his name is Dr. John Ellwood he is a chiropractor but does not do any adjustments at all, he has a machine that you can see on his web site and it does not hurt at all and I'm going to give it a try I've only been there the first time so I still haven't made up my mind about it yet but it deals all with the nervous system and my husband is really sold on the idea so I'm trying it and the main thing is it doesn't hurt.

This is a reply to # 415,078i have just recently been diganosed with rsd myself, i do the wax treatments as well, sometimes they seem to help great , but more times then none they jsut seem to take the edge off but if u or any one els with rsd has the bad pain like i get witch im sure evry one can relate to jsut takeing the edge of sometimes is a blessing in its self. im still trying to find other things to help i use a tens unit as well too. good luck and if u find anything thing eals that works well or thats worth a shot plsssssssssssss tell me
