Well, I try to eat things I think have fiber. One of my favorite breakfast cerials is Corn Bran, which fairly high in fiber. I eat a lot of vegetables and some meat and fruit. I don't eat much junk food. I really thank you for responding. I hope I don't sound like too much of an idiot here so please bear with me. Other people have suggested to me that I eat more fiber, but I don't see how that will do anything but produce more 'waste'. If a cram myself with fiber I might have an abnormally large bowel movement every day instead of every day and a half to two days. I have heard people say that not having a bowel movement every day is constipation. I may have constipation in that sense, but my stool is usually soft. Sometimes when I am in an awkward situation I can hold off a bowel movement for upto three days, and then sometimes it is hard. Even then usually only the first bit is hard and the rest is softer. I will try what you suggest, but I would like to know the purpose. Is the idea to cause a smaller bowel movement each day?

Your information is opinion based, not fact based, and you should present it that way instead of misleading this young man into thinking he has bowel abnormalities. Your "cure" may or may not work, no scientific basis for that either.

One other thing...

Try to let your son know that he is not ether abnormal or at fault for his problem, but he is unusual and may have problems where other people don't. He should try to learn to get along with regular bathroom facilities, whatever that takes for him. Hopfully it will save from him some embarrassing times. He had this trouble at a younger age than me so maybe he's already learned this.

Even though I had trouble at home, I never thought I had a problem. The first time I felt abnormal was at 8th grade camp. I resisted going to the bathroom, but eventually I had to. The bathroom was only semi-private, so I found a time when no one was around and went. I flushed and walked away but the toilet was clogged up completely. When someone found it they made a huge deal out of how big it was and everyone came to look and was saying the same thing. I was really worried that someone would figure out that it was me who did it. Fortunately no one did. I was really confused at first because I didn't know I had clogged the toilet and besides, to me the size of the BM seemed larger than average, but not unusual at all. A week or 2 later (at home) I got up and went to the bathroom in the middle of the night. My mom heard me and actually got up, knocked on the bathroom door, and told me not to flush it and she would take care of it in the morning. That really made me think I had an unusual problem problem even if my family was tyrying not to make a big deal out of it.

Sorry this was so long. I didn't intend for it to be when I started out. I just thought your son could avoid some of the awkwardness I went through if he is properly prepared.
