I wish to bring to your and everyone's attention that Flax Hulls - not the seed or the oils - are also very very good as fibre, both soluble and insoluble. In addition, flax hulls contain very high levels of botanical lignans called secoisolariciresinol glucoside or SDG.
SDG when ingested are converted in the bowels by friendly bacteria into mammalian lignans called enterodial (ED) and enterolactone (EL). ED and EL have been proven to be very powerful antioxidants. Hi Richard....do the flax hulls absorb as much moisture etc. as the psyllium husks? Do they bulk up as much?
I have heard that nutritionally they are better for you, but for cleaning out the mucoid plaque...they're not as good.
What's your experience with this?

I have no experience with physillum husk but believe flax hulls would be the same. You do need to drink lots of water and flax hulls do bulk - so maybe the same?
Sorry, dont know about mucoid plaque. Have not had them before and dont think I have them now. I use the flax hulls with a good probiotic (friendly bacteria) and it has been very good for me. Reduced a small cyst in my ear lobe within a week. Other than that, no significant health problems. I use it more for "preventive" purposes.

This is a reply to # 570,223How do you know you don't have any mucoid plaque!? Until you've done psyllium 3 or 4 times on an empty stomach for an extended period of time you'll never know! (unless you're a teenager who has eaten only organic vegetables and fruits and no meat or milk products...)

You are probably right and I might have mucoid plaque because I have had my fair share of un healthy Diet n lifestyle when I was much younger!!
5 years ago I changed everything from diet, lifestyle, everything. I am more relaxed now and content with my direction in life and my health. If I did have mucoid plaque it did not cause malabsorption, at least not for me?! I feel fit and active in indoor sports and can take on much younger players and outlast them.
I put this down to 2 things - a very good probiotic and flax hulls. It was 4 years ago that I found this probiotic that changed my life and improved my health I believe. When your friendly flora is in balance you feel healthy and food that you eat is not wasted. Of course, it must be a sensible diet with lots of water n exercise. The colonizing bacteria ensured that the GI tract continues to be clean.
The bacteria that attaches itself to the intestinal walls will prise loose all debris, old garbage and toxic substances stuck to the colon walls. Isn't this what B&P does, except that it is transient. Unlike the bifidumbacterium, it does not prevent recurrence??
Secondly, flax hulls is a good replacement for physillum husk. It provides fibre which is what physillum husk essentially does. However, flax hulls go further than that. It contains high levels of a botanical lignan called secoisolariciresinol glucoside. When taken it is converted in the bowel by friendly bacteria to mammalian lignans enterodial (ED) and enterolactone (EL). This is then absorbed by the body and are powerful antioxidants and very potent in treating and preventing carcinogenic and mutagenic activities. It can be used successfully to treat cancers and great preventive therapy too.
Bentonite is a chemical substance and do you know the long term effects of taking it? It is not natural and what happens to the minute deposits that accumulate over time - is it harmful?? Flaxseed, its oil and hulls have been used by man for thousands of years and there has not been any cases of toxicity even in high doses.
In view of my understanding of the above, there is no compeling reasons, not one, for me to do P&B. Perhaps my using the probiotic and flax hulls is already achieving that?? On top of that, both boost the immune system of the body. Surely this must be more beneficial that P&B or B&P???
Already a cyst that I had in one of my ear lobes for more than 20 years had gone...

They sound like something that I would do after a big b&p cleanse. (just because I like to SEE the stuff! and then I know what I'm dealing with)
Until either you or I do b&p's for 6 months (see what we get out) then a year of probiotics and flax hull..then another b&p cleanse - we'll never know if the probiotics and flax work the way you say they work. Actually you could do a test and see if you get out mucoid plaque with the b&p's - that would work.
But...if you feel great, you feel great! And that's the bottom line, right? I, personally, have never felt better...after doing 2 MC's with b&p's...and roughly 50 days total of b&p's while eating healthily. So...each to his own, right?
I DO like your idea of probiotics and flax hulls though...I do!
Bentonite clay is ancient too you know....it's been used in other cultures for hundreds of years as well! Maybe you haven't fully read up on it?
I don't think it's a case of probiotics/flax hulls OR b&p's - why not both? (not at the same time) They do slightly different things, I think...

I did not mean to sound adversorial in my earlier post and if it did, I do apologise. Just that I am very passionate about some things that I fully believe in and besides I have tried and which worked for me.
You are absoultely right, of course, the bottom line is as long as it works for one and feels great, that is the KEY!! I admire you for your "open mind" and receptiveness to new ideas, things... you must be such a wonderful and easy person to talk to and be with... :-)..
Unfortunately, I am a great believer in "let sleeping dogs lie", do not test what is doing okay because invariably our body is never perfect or 100% right/healthy. There will always be something wrong, I am sure. ON this basis, I am quite happy to move along until something breaks - not the right attitude, of course, but then that's me...
No, to be honest, I have very superficial knowledge about Bentonite clay and physillum husk other than what I read about them here. I am also a very simple person and likes things simple - life is complicated enough as it is. My mind can be focussed or shall we say "blinkered".. I take most things at face value and believe in the goodness of humanity although often feel stupid when caught out.......

You have opened my mind to taking probiotics and flax hull (I had only ever heard of flax seeds - ground or in oil form). I have been putting off taking probiotics (my favourite site suggests this too - www.thedoctorwithin.com) because, well, things are pretty good - but still, I would like to experience what it can do for me. Flax hulls too!
I gather you take them seperately? Or....Can you tell me what you do? How much you take?

No, I am not usually belligerent and believe that frank open discussions are always best. Each of us are entitled to our opinion about things and never a need to get upset or be angry. Emotions had never solved any problems, it only makes it worse. I have learnt that a long time ago and invariably gets one into trouble if one acts emotionally. So whenever I get emotional, I like to go for a walk and think it over before acting or reacting!
The reason why flax hulls had never been around is because no one has been able to produce it naturally before. It has to be pure flax hulls without any flaxseed oils or flaxseed. This is because both are unstable due to the oil content which turns rancid very quickly. In order to get the pure hull requires carefuly mechanically milling which is slow and laborious. Therefore commercial quantities are hard to produce.
However, there is one company now in the US that can produce this commercially and successfully. Unfortunately they are a very small company and I am helping them to market these amazing flax hulls to all and sundry.
Yes, I take them separately. Probiotics, and you need to take a very good one, is best taken on an empty stomach either first thing in the morning or last thing at night prior to bedtime. Flax hulls can be taken before, with or after food. It is just like bran and absorbs water and become mushy... NO taste to it though...
For a healthy person who has not taken probiotics initially, it is best to start a bit more to bring the friendly flora back into balance. I recommend for the best probiotic I use at 6 caps a day for 1-2 weeks and thereafter 2 caps a day. On the flax hulls, you do not need to take more than 2-3 gm a day and a tub of 150 gm would last you 2 months?
What the producer of the flax hulls did was to test their product with a nurse who is the owner's friend. She gave it to her church members to try. Results that came back were amazing. One lady who had estrogen lumps in her breast reported that they disappeared only after 3 weeks at 5gm of flax hulls a day. Another lady who had malignant tumor in her breast had it reduced from 9cm to 1 cm in a month at the same dosage. One other person, a paramedic pricked himself with a needle and got infected with AIDS. He tried the flax hulls and within a month, his swelling lymph nodes and other symptoms were reduced. After 2 months, he showed no signs of the AIDS symptoms. Unfortunately, there were no proper clinical trials and documented results but if you read their testimonies, it is genuine and real!!
I am totally sold on flax hulls and in time it will revolutionize treatment for some previously difficult to treat diseases!!Advertisement

Sorry that you could not view my website properly with Netscape 4.0. We use "php" extension files for the website with HTML and yes, it can be difficult for Netscape older version browsers. The Explorer browser would be a lot better and best with version 5.0 and after.
