NEW YORK (Reuters) - A U.S. Baptist preacher has publicly defended himself for firing a female Sunday School teacher after more than 50 years on the job because he believes the Bible bans women from teaching men.
Watertown First Baptist Church Pastor Tim LaBouf, also a city council member in Watertown, N.Y., said women could fulfill any role or responsibility they wanted to -- outside the church.
"My belief is that the qualifications for both men and women teaching spiritual matters in a church setting end at the church door, period," LaBouf said in a statement on the church Web site (http://www.nnyinfo.com/firstbaptist). (emphasis added)
LaBouf and the church board fired Mary Lambert, 81, earlier this month in a letter that cited the scriptural qualifications for Sunday School teachers, Lambert said.
"They quote First Timothy Two, 11-14: A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, she must be silent," Lambert said, reading from the letter.
Lambert clearly should just stay home and be barefoot and pregnant, submissive and docile and ignorant, just the way God wants. Even at age 81. Especially at age 81.

I see, so your self-absorbed? Truly an unfortunate state of existence when there is so much more outside of yourself. Bitterness is a lonely road to walk, but there is One who loved you and gave Himself for you (Gal 2:20)to set you free from self. This is the freedom Jesus speaks of when He said "you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free." It's freedom from self, freedom to know and fellowship with God, freedom to "boldly go to the throne of grace" (Heb 4:16), freedom to understand the mind of Christ where all wisdom and knowledge reside (Col 2:1-3), freedom to have peace in your soul, and many more freedoms are yours by faith.

This is a reply to # 643,838The article didn't specify whether the woman taught children or adults in the Sunday School. If she taught children the Bible allows for this. If she taught adult men and women it's about time someone put a stop to her teaching. Men are not to be taught by women according to the Word of God. Men (and women) are to be taught by their authorized Pastor/Teacher.

How is it that you know so much about Christianity, which, by your own words, seem to detest?
By the way, Jesus is no longer a baby, nor is He crying about "the present evil age", He is a resurrected Glorified Man, The God/Man seated at the right hand of The Father. At the age of 33 (a full grown man) He was tried, crucified, died and was buried. On the third day He rose from the dead and on the fiftieth day ascended up into heaven where He was Glorified, where He sits in Honor until He comes for His Bride.
