There are several ways that the colon can become structurally distorted, including twists, constrictions, ballooning and prolapses. The reasons for this are numerous: chronic constipation, lack of adequate fiber in the diet, the presence of pathogenic organisms, nutritional deficiencies, a toxic-laden colon and stress. When twists are present they often occur along with constrictions. The colon can return to healthy structure and functioning without medication or surgery. A thorough colon cleansing is in order to eliminate toxic material. Conditions such as candida and
parasites should be addressed, and beneficial bacteria should be replaced with a good probiotic. A whole foods diet with special emphasis on vegetables and fruits should be consumed, and any nutritional deficiencies should be corrected, particularly minerals as they are essential components of structural tissue. A series of colon hydrotherapy sessions are helpful as they provide an internal work-out for the colon and aid in re-establishing healthy peristalsis. Regular slant-board exercises may also be very beneficial. See Dr. Jensen's Guide to Better Bowel Care by Dr.
Bernard Jensen for exercise instructions and a more detailed discussion about these conditions.
