I'm only a little into this book, and I've already learned a bunch of new things. It seems every chapter has something interesting that sheds a new light.
One, is that the body's requirement for essential fatty acids is much higher than I thought from reading supplement bottles... and the needs are even higher for very large/obese people (me.) - Common sense if only you think about it! - I could be using up to two tablespoons of flax daily just to meet my daily needs, and if I was deficient to start, even more.
Another is that when you meet the body's needs for the essential fatty acids, *** the metabolism increases if you are overweight *** so that your whole system normalizes. The converse of that would be a deficient diet would put weight on you faster than a nondeficient diet, and as your weight went up, the deficiency would get progressively worse. AND the symptoms of deficiency are linked to many of the degenerative diseases I've been struggling with personally.
Another thing was that of the two essential fatty acids we must get from our diet, one is provided in the oils we've used in OP... sunflower, safflower, walnut and sesame (among others.) Some of the benefit of swishing may be due to giving our body the linoleic acid it needs!
I've had wonderful results with adding a tablespoon or more of VCO to my daily diet, but I think I will be switching to flax or hemp to get the GLA. VCO has seriously cut down on my
Sugar cravings by feeding my body more slowly and killing off any candida overgrowth. There's nonorganic cold-pressed flax oil in my fridge right now. Don't particularly like the "grass" flavor but I'll put up with it if it helps me get healthy. Anyone have a favorite supplier of organic hemp or flax oils?
