Nope! There is nothing general about fasting. Each fast is different as your body is different each time you fast.
I have had fasts completely free of problems, and some pretty rocky times as well... you really just never know!
Issues can arrive early or late, and be mild or severe... flu-like symptoms, the notorious caffeine headache (predictably early on in a fast), body aches, kidney pain (I passed a small calcification on day 18 of a very long fast)... all depending on the work your body is doing as the process continues and how toxic you are to begin with. Of course, as I get cleaner and cleaner fasting gets easier and easier!
What can you do? If you are very toxic, do a pre-cleanse diet. I ate fruits and vegetables for 30 days before my 60 day fast and was very glad I did. For a short (say, 10 dayer), eat this way for 3 days to a week, and lessen or eliminate all sorts of trouble. ALWAYS wean off coffee over 3-5 days before beginning, or risk the dreaded caffeine headache like I had this trip! YES, I know better, but that one weenie cup of coffee was worth it to me for some reason...
DRINK 1/2
oz of water per pound of body weight every fasting day. Sounds like a lot, and it takes practice! But detoxing requires lots of water and if you are dehydrated you can get in trouble (particularly the kidneys).
DO your colon cleansing routine EVERY fasting day. People who skip this step often find themselves in trouble. It is not
Master-Cleanse protocol, but particularly on long fasts I use enemas along with the tea and swf. Many times a plain
water enema has stopped a crisis dead in its tracks for me.
Mainly just go by the book. Drink your lemonade, keep your colon very clean every fasting day and BREAK by the book! The last and one of the greatest pitfalls is the break. Eat LIGHT (never too much at a time) eat SLOWLY (chew foods very well) and eat CLEAN (nothing heavy, meaty, greasy, sugary) until your normal digestion is fully reestablished and you will do fine.
Listen to your body, and if you do get into a crisis, treat yourself well, as if you have the flu. Stay in, stay down, stay warm... try a
Colon Cleanse and lots of extra water, and perhaps warm herb teas like camomile and mint. I have had to cease lemonade and just drink tea and water for spells, then resume when the crisis has passed.
We are all here to support you! Have a great cleanse.
Best,
Somer
