I've been eating raw egg yolks for quite some time now, as well as feeding it to my dog. So far I haven't eaten the egg whites but after reading about this on the web there seems to be differing opinions on the nutritional value of egg whites.
For example Mercola and Vonderplanitz are of the opinion that you should consume the egg white as well as the yolk because the yolk is brimming over with biotin so there is no risk of biotin deficiency.
What was Weston A Price's opinion on this?
Logically it seems only natural to consume both yolk and white. And a lot more cost effective : )
Any opinions on/experiences with this appreciated!

This is a reply to # 835,101i use 3-4 eggs raw in a smoothie each day and don't separate. whites are supposed to be harder to digest and are the part that can cause allergies in kids, but i think they have some good stuff, too!

This is a reply to # 836,493what is your liquid in your smoothie? Also, are you using the eggs for your protein? If I remember right the egg whites are what contain the protein and if that is right then I do not remember what egg yolk contains.
I have a vegan berry brand powder for protein. I have not made a smoothie in a while because o.j. was giving me challenges...stomach and gas wise.
I have been using the vegand powder in my oatmeal...which also contains flax seed, wheat germ, raisins and real cinnamon (have heard that works to help BP and some other things). It does taste very good. Maybe I should stay with that and find a way to incorporate the raw eggs, someplace else?

I am going to start keeping my own chickens this summer. The only eggs I can get from the grocery are egglands. OTOH, there are a lot of people who sell fresh farm eggs around here. It's fun to keep your own chickens though. I keep them as pets since I don't eat meat.- Re: don't meant to butt in... finallyfaith

This is a reply to # 836,583thats cool! would love to have my own chickens. remember, if you want the eggs to be extra high in omega 3's, then feed your chickens lots of flax seed. if you ever see the expensive eggs in the store that say "extra high in omega 3" thats how they did it, they fed their chickens flax.

This is a reply to # 836,601Thanks for that tip! My chix used to eat cracked corn feed but they also picked worms from the compost heap in my backyard. Now I'm out in an area where folks are less likely to call the cops (for keeping chix!), I'm seriously considering getting a few of them to collect eggs. I want them for myself and for my family. My husband is a meat eater and I figured he'd like the eggs for meals.

This is a reply to # 836,631The way they commercially raise the chickens to have high Omeg-3 eggs is completely different.
They are fed 'seafood products' and Fish Oil & sea vegetables...They will even go so far as to add Fish Meal to the grit.
And unless it says specifically "Free-Range" and/or you trust the producer - chances are they still fed Chicken By-Product Meal, at least indirectly, as it is used as a 'filler' in many commercial feeds.
