hi, at the pharmacy they only had a pear shaped douche enema thing, can i use this ??? i'm on day 3 of a juice fast and want to do it as quickly as possible...thanks- Re: URGENT: pear shaped douche enema... valerie_cct

This is a reply to # 932,057I'm assuming by pear shaped you mean a squeeze bulb. If it's an adult sized 6, 8, or 10 ounce size, that will do the job, but it's a bit more inconvenient than using an enema bag if you will be taking it on your own.
It's much easier to receive an enema with a bulb syringe if someone else is administering it, since it takes several fills, insertions, squeezes and refills to introduce enough water high enough to achieve good results.
If you are doing it all by yourself, fill a pan, bowl or pitcher with a quart or two of warm water at about 105 degrees F and set it on the floor where you can reach it while lying on your back. Fill by squeezing the bulb as much as you can, placing the nozzle in the water and release the pressure on the bulb. Lubricate your anus and nozzle of the syringe thoroughly with K-Y jelly or vaseline.
Lie on your back on a pad or towel on the floor of the bathroom and pull your knees back toward your chest and very carefully insert the rectal tube into your rectum. Do not force it if it won't go in easily.
Once inserted apply firm pressure to the bulb to force the water out and into your rectum, and when it feels like the bulb has been emptied don't release the pressure on it, remove slowly and place the tip in the pan and release to allow the bulb to refill.
Repeat this sequence until you have taken the desired amount of water, and hold it all in for 3 to 5 minutes if possible before getting up to expel on the toilet.
It's a lot of work if you are doing it by yourself as compared to the convenience of a combination or fountain syringe. You can buy one of these by searching for enema bag on the web. You will find a number of places selling them.

i'll order another one on internet but for now it's okay...
i do have one other question though, dont like to talk about this, but i had one minnor minnor stoll today and it is my 4th day on the juice fast, is this normal ? or is my digestive system still not in pauze...break..;
and i still have gas too...this normal ???
(and i do still smoke, really scare it doesnt allow my fast to go good, but i cant stop for now)

Quit smoking. I did it after 50 years of smoking. You can do it. Just make up your mind to do it.

This is a reply to # 932,682Hi czreader, what you are experiencing with reduced bowel movements and gas is not at all abnormal, that's one of the main reasons why enemas are recommended while fasting.
How much water were you able to take using the bulb syringe? You need at least a quart, preferably 1 1/2 to 2 quarts at least once a day. In your situation you may want to have an enema first thing in the morning or around mid-day and another at bedtime.
When self-administering an enema with a bulb syringe it difficult to get much more than half the capacity introduced with each squeeze. Typically, with an 8 oz bulb you can expect 5 or perhaps 6 ounces per squeeze. So if you wanted to take a quart and a half (approx 1.5 litres), you will likely need about 9 insertions and refills, and unless you have longer arms than I do, it can be a bit awkward.
That's why it's so much easier to just fill an enema bag, and control the inflow with one hand to allow the water to come in at the rate and pressure you choose. You can stop and resume the flow as you progress without the refilling and reinsertion after each squeeze.
A bulb syringe is the way I remember the first enemas I received as a child, and I have used a bulb syringe on my own a few times since then when I was staying somewhere where using an enema bag would have been embarrassing or impossible. But once you have an enema bag, you won't want to go back to the bulb.

This is a reply to # 933,340The bulb syringe enema was what I also remember getting as a child.
It was used on us, and my cousin, as needed.
Aunt was an old school nurse. Who believed in the enema instead of giving OTC junk or laxatives.
Like Valerie, I have also taken the bulb syringe enema since leaving home.
It does take multiple insertions and refilling the syringe to receive a two quart enema with the 8 oz syringe.
One benefit of the enema bulb it is easy to take along when traveling. Instead of the bulky bag. With hose and nozzles.
I did find the bulb to be helpful when one of mine needed an enema when traveling or visiting a friend for a few weeks.
Always clean the syringe very well before and after use. Air

I have used the bulb syringe many times over the years. In my early 70s now.
Seemed when growing up ever home had a bulb syringe. I remember seeing it in my friends homes. Of course never asked about it.
So like Valerie, was my first experience of getting enemas — the bulb syringe.
Using the bulb solo can be done. But requires refilling and reaching to give yourself a bulb enema. Some prefer another to administer the bulb enema to them. It’s easier when have someone to assist.
Growing up the bulb enema was given often!
Given on a table (most of the time kitchen table or dining room table the one receiving the enema on the table was on back on a towel with legs held up in the air some) the pan of warm soapy water was always sitting on the table; Or,
across the lap way (the one getting the bulb would be across the lap on a towel laying on tummy - the pan of warm soap water was close by so she could refill the bulb if needed in the large bowl or pan a few times); Or,
or laying on a towel on the bed, laying on side. It wasn’t given often on the bed. Guess was because the linen would have to be removed for the enema. Only time I remember getting the bulb when in bed was when I was sick in bed and had a fever. It was all brought to the bedroom.
Best to consult with holistic doctor before giving any home remedies. Including enemas.

The red rubber enema bulb syringe is the way I remember the first enemas I was given as a child.
My aunt was a nurse. I grew up with her. She believed the enema should be given to the child often. Especially if had a cold, flu, fever or if the child was constipated.
Since leaving home I have gotten enemas with the bulb syringe. Much larger than the one my aunt had. It can be awkward getting a bulb syringe enema "solo." But I have done it many times. And actually enjoy getting a bulb enema instead of the bag one. s
I used the bulb syringe on my two for years. Especially when traveling. It was easier to take along on a trip. Instead of the bag or bucket enema.
I disagree with you saying "once you have an enema bag, you won't want to go back to the bulb." I always wanted to go back to the bulb syringe.

The bulb syringe was the enema I also (as you told) received growing up.
Being the oldest I remember it being used often.
Bulb syringe enemas were given on a table, across the lap and a few times when in bed. And are still given this way.
You are right for giving a larger volume enema (such as a quart or two quart enemas) with the bulb syringe did take numerous refills of the syringe.
Agree with you, easier to have someone to administer the bulb enema.
When older I received many bulb syringe enemas from another nurse, mom or friend.
Sizes…. The 4 ounce bulb was/is called a “infant/child’s enema bulb syringe. Good for giving the enema to a toddler.
Sold in most drug stores sir a few dollars.
The 6 oz good for the older child.
The 8 oz bulb was, and still is, good for the teen and adult.
Over the years I gave, and still do, many bulb syringe enemas. To my three, friends, friends of friends, and patients.
I also preferred to take the bulb in my bag when made a home visit to administer an enema. I had various sizes of the bulb in my bag.
One time I remember giving the mom a mom an enema with the larger size. Then giving her 4 yo b an enema with the smaller size syringe.
Other nurses and caregivers preferred using the bucket or bag enema in the home.
In my early 70s now.
Is the bulb still used in the home? Of course! It is a very easy enema to prepare, administer and clean after the enema. Easy to carry in a bag and travel with.
Many times when visiting another mom for a few weeks I gave one of mine an enema with the bulb syringe. Few times I remember the mom I was visiting decided one of hers needed an enema and she got the bulb syringe out.
Recently a mom and I were discussing health and remedies. She asked about the enema for her 6 yo boy. A trip to the store with her was made and the bulb was purchased. He was given an enema with it when we got back to her place. He was constipated and needed an enema.
Amazing how it helped him. He was back to normal immediately after getting an enema. He did protest and resisted some when he was told he was going to be given an enema. So it was good I was able to assist her. But he took it very well. The next day she gave him another enema without me assisting. I did as Valerie told here, and on her page, prepared the one who was going to get the enema. Then prepared the room where it would be given.
Got the syringe, towel and jar of Vaseline out. Prepared a large pan or bowl of warm mild soapy water. Took all to where the enema was going to be given. Most of the time for the child this was on a table. Brought the one getting the enema to the room. Closed the door. Made sure there would be no interruptions. Had him relax and syringed him a few bulb full.
Sometimes took to expel the enema and the continued giving a few more syringes.
