  • When You "Gotta Go"   by  SqueakyClean     18 y     3,287       4 Messages Shown       Blog: Observations
It has come to my attention on several occasions that my bowel habits are unusual.

    Apparently it is normal to:
    Take a long time
    Strain
    Have bad smells
    Make embarassing noises
"Hold it" for hours or all day
Avoid defecating in public (only at home or certain "safe" zones)
    Need Reading Material

But when I "gotta go" then I just go! Not much difference from urinating, really.

One time I was talking with my brother. I excused myself for a minute, telling him I had to use the toilet. I left, and returned about 1 minute later (possibly less). I told him that I felt relieved, I had a REALLY BIG poop. (What is family for?) He gave me a weird look and expressed his disbelief that I could defecate in such a short amount of time. But it only took about 3 seconds! Sit down, WHOOSH, 1 wipe, stand up, wash hands, I'm done! I explained that and he was still skeptical.

In talking to him and many other people I have come to realize it's not normal to just sit down have it all come out effortlessly in a short amount of time. I don't like to "hold it" and why would I? That stuff wants to exit!

It is pretty rare for me to go a day without a bowel movement. Usually after a ton of junk food. I understand that going a day, or several, without a movement, isn't all that unusual.

The singing teacher at the local school tells the students to squeeze their diaphram (for their breathing) like they do "when they doo-doo". Several problems with this scenario.

I'm not perfect. Sometimes there's a little, sometimes there's a lot. Sometimes it floats, sometimes it sinks. Sometimes I go 3 times in a day, sometimes only once. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to get started, in which case I will squat on the toilet and/or gently massage the lower abdomen. Sometimes I give up, go have a big drink of water, and wait until my body is ready.

But it is curious as to what people consider "normal." They consider what they know to be normal. And since this isn't a subject people frequently compare notes on, it can take a while to become aware of if they are actually "normal."

And even longer to learn if their bowel movements are actually HEALTHY...

Love your observations! They're so spot on and laced with excellent dry humor!!

Can't wait to read something about the food you put on your face. LOL

Keep writing and I'll keep reading!

I didn't know that it was healthy to go daily for a long long time. As a teen the most frequent would be 1 week, usually much less. I didn't know different. Then when I heard other people were different, I just figured my metabolism is slow and that's why I can't get rid of that last 10 lbs. Because of this summer with 2 MCs and lots of RAW food, I understand where you're at. It's easier, quicker, more frequent. It just goes to show that most people do not have a healthy digestive system. Unfortunately, what is "normal" is to be not healthy, in our society.
