Learn about specific superfoods to help you look good and feel good.

You probably know that there are certain foods you can eat that give you energy and certain foods you should stay away from. If you have certain health concerns or beauty goals, there are some foods you can eat for these, as well. Read on for some different foods to eat that can help you feel and function better and even look and feel younger!

Eat These Foods for Your Health

You may need a green superfood to really give your health a boost, but don’t forget to eat a healthy diet every day, too. There are different foods that can help with whatever changes you would like to make.

Eye Health

If you are concerned about your eye health, try a diet high in

  • Vitamin A, which helps people with dry eyes, improves night vision, and helps to keep the retinas healthy. Vitamin A can be found in brightly colored fruits and veggies, such as carrots and sweet potatoes.

  • Lutein and Zeaxanthin, which are antioxidants that lower the risk of certain eye diseases. These are found in spinach, kale, romaine lettuce, and other leafy vegetables, as well as peas, eggs, and broccoli.

  • Vitamin C, which helps to protect the eyes from the sun and other environmental factors. This important vitamin may even help to prevent cataracts. Try sweet potatoes, red bell peppers, tomatoes, and oranges – but for the maximum benefit, eat these fruits and veggies raw instead of cooking them.

  • Vitamin E, which can help to prevent cataracts and can help people with macular degeneration. Foods high in vitamin E include peanut butter, avocados, almonds, and sunflower seeds.

Oral Health

There are also foods you can eat if you are concerned about your oral health and for keeping your teeth looking their best!

To fight gingivitis, try foods that are high in

  • Omega 3 fatty acids, which can be found in peanut butter, fish, eggs, and nuts.

  • Beta carotene, which can be found in broccoli, carrots, spinach, and lettuce.

  • Vitamin C, which can be found in bell peppers and strawberries. However, you should avoid citrus fruits – they are high in vitamin C, but they are also highly acidic, which can damage teeth.

Circulatory System Health

We all know someone who has had a heart attack or stroke -- it's scary to think it could happen to you. You can keep your circulatory system healthy with foods such as

  • Fatty fish, such as tuna and salmon, to help increase blood flow

  • Berries, which can lower blood pressure and improve circulation

  • Walnuts, which can help to lower blood pressure

  • Garlic, which not only increases blood flow but has the added benefit of improving the immune system

  • Citrus fruits, which can improve blood flow and reduce the risk of stroke

Eat These Foods as a Part of Your Beauty Regimen

The good news is that many of the foods that are good for your health are also good for your hair, skin, nails, and teeth.

For whiter teeth, try foods such as cheese, spinach, apples, celery, and broccoli. They are not only delicious but can help to brighten up your smile! Of course, you should also avoid some foods and drinks that can stain teeth, such as dark berries, coffee, tea, soft drinks, and wine.

Many foods can help with both your skin and hair:

  • Foods high in omega-3 fatty acids (besides health and beauty, these are also great for brain health)

  • Foods high in vitamin C

  • Spinach, which helps to keep skin moist while preventing wrinkles and removing dead skin

  • Coconut, which provides hydration and is high in fats and vitamins E and K to make hair look shiny and healthy

  • Oysters, which are high in zinc, which makes for healthy skin cells

As you can see, there are many delicious foods that aren’t just good for your body but for your beauty as well. Choose a few different foods and eat them often to see how your life might change.
