Help Protect Shoshone Lands January 05, 2006 Oxfam America works to find lasting solutions to poverty, hunger and social injustice.  One of our partners, the Western Shoshone Defense Project, needs your help now.   The US government is violating the rights of the Western Shoshone to ancestral lands—rights that had been recognized as belonging to this Native American Nation by the 1863 Treaty of Ruby Valley. The government has allowed gold mining and military testing of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons; all on Western Shoshone lands without their consent. Denied fair resolution in US courts, the Western Shoshone have appealed to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD).    The Western Shoshone request asks CERD to help stop US violations against them, and to demand reform of US laws and policies that allow for the theft and destruction of indigenous lands.
