Stigma, What Stigma?
Most people are reasonable, open and supportive, if you give them a chance. And if you run into some of the destroyers out there, that's okay too, it's all part of life.
Date: 6/11/2007 10:26:16 AM ( 17 y ) ... viewed 2022 times I started this blog as an empowerment and encouragement zone for those of of with "the gift". Just because a few mean-spirited and ignorant people wish to continue the stigma doesn't mean we have to buy into it.
Most people are reasonable, open and supportive, if you give them a chance. And if you run into some of the destroyers out there, that's okay too, it's all part of life.
We can't control what others say or do but we can control ourselves. We can be be honest, upfront and unashamed.
There is no more reason to be ashamed of having herpes than having acne or arthritis.
There is no excuse in the world for not disclosing your herpes status before you have any kind of intimate contact with anyone.
There is a lot to life, and herpes is a tiny part of it, unless you blow it up way beyond what it actually is.
People newly diagnosed will likely be angry, ashamed, stunned, numb, scared, etc. But when clarity and distance comes there's an opportunity to make peace with herpes and see the opportunites and challenges it creates.
