ive been updating my progress on this thread.

just to let you guys know that my EC is becoming smaller and smaller on a daily basis. peeling cycle changed from 2 days to more than 4 days. healed part is changed from 0% to 40% in about 12 days.
in these 12 days, i must confess, i did have 2 days picking my lip skin when i was out (its hard to socialize when the skin is so hard and look ugly), also had small amount of alcohol and lots of sweet fruits.. so it doesnt mean i followed strict guidelines or anything but changed my diet drastically.
very happy with the result :-)
not really to do with balms or ointment, anything external. its an internal thing as well as stopping picking and peeling by force.

im not taking refined Sugar or fruit Sugar (though i only eat fruits every now and then) at the moment.
im sticking to Agave syrup and Xylitol when i make my gluten & dairy free pancakes (using brown rice flour and buckwheat flour..)! love them a lot. my diet is completely dairy and gluten free, very very low in sugar...
my lip is feeling amazing right now.
i did have something similar to what i believe candida die-off thing. my skin in my body felt itchy and had Acne for few days but they are gone now.

My lips are now 50% improved, and I've done similar to you eliminating refined sugar, dairy; also salt, alcohol and taking homeopathic remedies.

i allow myself to go easy sometimes cos i dont wana be stressed out but when i started to see my lip being healed daily, im kinda getting obsessed with candida fighting food !!
my recovery is kinda quick maybe because ive been off milk for more than 7 years and off wheat for about 4 months due to my allergies. ive been cutting them off already, so it wasnt too hard to eliminate more foods from my diet.
day like today (few days after hard skin being peeled), normally my lip will start to get hard and edges will start that curly thing, BUT im having really really soft lip. ive noticed that my skin (day 1 type new skin) stopped looking shiny but looks more matte like my normal top lip (without EC). loving the result.
i was worried that i will catch a cold cos im not taking vitamins etc. but im so impresed with my healthy body compared to my housemates who are having bad flu now.. i havent caught it, though im living with them. i guess maybe my white tea and green tea are doing great job providing me lots of antioxiidant.- UPDATE:75% HEALED after 2 weeks. its... warriorqueen

This is a reply to # 1,735,292finally started to have peeling skin BUT on 25% of my bottom lip, means 75% is healed after 2 weeks. very very happy. healed part is very soft just like my top lip. AMAZING.
i actually enjoy my restricted diet now. im not craving for sweets etc.. got used to it, cos i get motivated to keep going because of my progress.
i recommend anyone with EC to try out anti candida diet for at least 3-4 weeks. my case was unusually quick to heal just because ive been off milk for 7 years and off wheat for 4 months because of my allergies, only started my new diet (anti candida) 2 weeks ago, then my EC is reduced to 25% from 100%. expecting full recovery by Christmas ! that will be the best Christmas pressie.
ok, i've been updating on my progress almost daily. i will stop here now. may come back when my EC is fully gone. but you can easily guess its happening next week or so.

hi yes, i can give some details about what i eat, drink etc.. if my past posts are bit scattered and not easy to know what im really doing. no problem. i believe that this will help lots of EC sufferers though not everyone is the same. if you wana heal EC quickly, try this out.. its good for your body anyway. its a big post, bear with me.
i start with "NOs" because you need to know what im avoiding first to cure my EC, than what im eating. simple stuff like black tea or juices DO feed candida (yeast).
i start by throwing these stuff (Big NOs) away from my cupboard, fridge..
basically its very close to candida free diet.
NO yeast (lots of stock cubes have yeast)
No alcohol
No Mushrooms or anything moldy or fermented !
NO Sugar (includes any types of sugar, fructose, fruit juices)
No Fruits (it depends on which stage of caindida diet we are on, but most fruits are banned in stage 1)
No dairy
No gluten (i know this is very hard but its possible, no white flour!!)
No ketchup, Mayo, Vinegar (apart from apple cider vinegar)
NO SUPPLEMENTS (BIG BIG thing).
No black tea, avoid too much caffeine
No fruit juices
i basically replaced all my sweetners with Xylitol (natural sweetener), and Agave. i use less Agave syrup. these 2 improved my lip really really quick. stevia is recommended to use but i couldnt buy it in my local whole foods.
most of veggies are fine..
WHAT AM I EATING?
Eggs, simple scrambled eggs with bit of Sea Salt and tiny bit of xylitol (or agave) to give more depth ! yummy
Organic Brown Rice, i make really nice risotto without dairy. i use yeast free stocks, onions, seafood, garlic, tomato sauce etc.. delicious.
Fried rice with brown rice and veggies, some seafood, egg, soysauce (its banned from candida diet but didnt affect me, my EC is being cured anyway)
Spag Bol with Gluten free pasta and veggie mince! put lots of garlic and onions in mine..
lots of recipes can be improvised.. i improvise a lot and have fun.
Ok, i didnt go too crazy about fruits being banned. i would still eat 1 banana/day. and a small orange/day is still ok. the best thing is not to get too stressed about this diet in the beginning. cos its a very very restricted diet. if you find it hard, do it one by one..
"what about Sweet stuff?"
I make my own gluten & dairy & Sugar free pancakes. amazing, i dont need to buy confectionaries anymore cos its yummy. recipe below.
1/3 cup buckwheat mixed with 2/3 cup brown rice flour (just rice flour), 1 cup soya milk (i use half water: half soya milk), 2 tea spoons baking powder, 1 Egg, 1/2 tea spoon Sea Salt , 2 table spoons of xylitol (i add bit of agave too), bit of oil. i mix all of them nicely, heat flying pan. heat both sides with quite low heat... delicious.
Im only staring out with this diet, so im gonna experiemt with recipes and extend my range more later.
TIP !! google gluten & dairy free recipes and use alternative candida free ingredients using xylitol, agave, yeast free organic stock cubes etc.. tons of recipes available. this forum has everything !

my EC is almost gone. right now less than 15% of my bottom lip has EC as i type, meaning 85% is cured. the big jump from 40% to 85% (in 2 days) came as a result of going almost Sugar free.

i think i will still be able to find food that i can eat.
plus, after being on candida free diet for for 7 weeks or so, most of foods can be re-introduced one by one anyway.
but i will try to avoid Sugar and gluten & dairy etc as much as i can.
my EC is almost gone but i will still keep going with this diet for a while, though i will have some beer when im out with friends.
in fact i had small amount of beer and soft drink 10 days ago, but it didnt affect my recovery much, just because im on this restriced diet most of the time.

I have tried Montreal's diet and although it seemed to work abit, i was constantly feeling hungry and losing weight which i was not happy about.
I dont know if anybody is having the same problem but i recently noticed that i have tiny black/ dark brown dots along the side of my tongue. nope, im eating alot so im not losing weight at all !! thankfully im a good cook, so it helps. when im hungry i do very quick scrambled eggs, or make pancakes.
when i crave, i can cook stuff really quickly im loving it.
i cook a big veggie soup and keep it in the fridge, so i can eat it anytime, having brown rice on the side etc.. tasty.
ive checked out Montreal's diet, its pretty good but it is quite diffrent from what im having. in candida diet, we dont allow any types of Sugar cos anything sweet feeds candida, no fruit Sugar or juices, or fruits, honey, syrup, apart from Stevia, Vegetable glycerin, etc (i take xylitol and agave).
yeast is a very bad one, and its in quite a lot of seasonings, snacks, stock cubes etc.. dunno if he mentions about yeast anywhere.
caffeine feeds candida, too. Montreal's diet allows fruits with very high Sugar content ! candida feasts on those sweet fruits. his diet is pretty good for many people without EC (and some with EC), his advice is generally great.
but he doesnt mention about condiments like ketchup, mayo etc.. most of these seasonings feed candida. vinegar is another no-no.
i didnt do any excercises or cared about breathing, i just followed candida free diet, my EC IS GONE now. woohoo.

This is a reply to # 1,736,506had EC for about 4-5 months. my bottom lip peeled every 24-48 hours a day. bleeding and all that. i trimmed peeled edges so many times. now i dont have to do that anymore.
no i wont keep doing this diet for good, obviously. as i mentioned in my old posts (in case you havent read them carefully), after several weeks of being on caindida free diet, we can introduce foods one by one, very slowly. even alcohol, starting very small amount.
i would still avoid, sugars and yeast as much as i can though. but i wont be too strict when im out with mates, socializing or dining with good friends.
i just had a half a can of beer today to celebrate, actually :D

before i could not go out 4-5 days a week, more or less, i was only going out (to work or socialize) when it was on a good day of the cycle. i was cancelling work or appointments depending on how my lip was looking.
while ago my lip was bleeding cos i was picking so much, the worst time my lip was peeling every 24 hours or even LESS. i was cutting curly edgy bits with nail scissors and when its the time to do that no balm would work, cos the skin gets really hard like plastic, so i had to stay at home to avoid seeing ANYONE.
now im enjoying my social life so much, i dont have to check my lip on a mirror every 20 mins anymore. its gone back to soft and normal like my top lip. no balm needed. this is just awesome. i was so desperate to get healed so i was spending so much time online for finding resources for EC. i didnt even know it was called EC 3 weeks ago ! this forum really changed my life.
yes, as someone mentioned, it takes a looong time to see improvement after changing the diet, but my case i realized it was the permanent cure for my EC, so i didnt mind how strict it is.
yes it will take a long time for many people, but i had gone through different diets before for a long time myself (meat and dairy free for 7 years, gluten free for 5 months, then candida free diet). i got used to special diet so much, so candida free diet isnt so hard for me to find alternative ingredients (all available in local natural food stores like Whole Foods Market).
Good luck everyone. there is no short cut to this.

How long were you on the candida diet before you saw improvement? And are on still on it? I was on the diet for a few months, but I saw ni improvement. However, I think I ate wheat instead of white flour and still took supplements. if you were eating wheat and taking supplements, i don't think it was candida free diet, cos those things actually feed candida and won't improve the condition much.
thats good that you dont crave for bread and Sugar though ! its definitely not too far from the actual candida diet if you stop supplements and wheat and gluten (includes white flour, wholemeal, spelt, barley, rye, oats etc..).
i staretd to see improvement after few days to a week, huge improvement after 14 days or so.
i am trying to stay on this diet for a while, HOWEVER, im becoming more flexible when i have to socialize. in fact, i had beer this weekend, on friday and saturday. of course i will stay healthy most of the time :-)- Re: MY EC IS GONE !!!! #128628

But I thought the diet was only for a certain number of months until the candida died off. I did not think you had to be on it for the rest of your life. I mean I actually felt my fat on body being eaten away from wasting away. I looked sickly.

This is a reply to # 1,736,993I think I saw improvement 6-8 months after starting the diet. My lips were REALLY terrible. I can't tell you what a crimp EC was on my dating life...I could not imagine anyone wanting to even kiss someone with ugly peeling, yellow lips like mine. After 8 months, my lips improved to a point where I could mask the peeling with emollients because the layers had thinned and weren't as noticeable. One time, though, I felt and SAW my lips peel off as I was kissing someone. Let me tell you, that is a pretty mortifying experience. My lips weren't strong enough and this created a huge mental obstacle for me. So I went back to being a social recluse.
Fast forward to now. 18 months later, lips are great, social life is great, and I have a girlfriend. Kissing is good. Drinking is good. The lips still peel but when they do, the skin underneath is not completely raw like before. I know that I have regrown normal layers because my lips will sometimes bleed when they're chapped and if I don't moisturize enough (like normal lips do). This never happened before.
I followed a strict anti-Candida diet for 1 year. I slipped up sometimes but for the most part, I was good about sticking to it. I bought a book called the Complete Candida Yeast Guidebook on Amazon and this really helped me through this trying time. The book taught me what foods to avoid and was very thorough in explaining why to avoid them. It gave good tips on how to plan your meals. I'm not trying to advertise this book--you can find other info about the diet on the internet, but I thought this book was the most educational source I read.
I think to get through this, it helps to have an interest in cooking for yourself. The diet really isn't that terrible, in my opinion, once you figure out that its main emphasis is on weeding out processed foods from your system (refined sugar, refined flour, etc.). I learned to cook due to EC and for that, I'm grateful because cooking is a huge passion for me now. You'll find that Italian, French, and other Mediterranean cuisines that utilize simple ingredients is pretty adaptable to the anti-Candida diet. Just cut out things like bread, pasta, cream, potatoes and vinegar. I should note, I never gave up liquor during this period although you're supposed to on the diet. I did try to cut down. :)
I can't tell you that candida is the main culprit for our lip condition. But I do think the anti-candida diet will improve your overall health by encouraging you to eat more vegetables and whole grains, introducing better nutrition into your diet. You will lose weight initially but I gained it back eventually. I've relaxed my diet since my lips have almost healed and nowadays I mostly adhere to a gluten-free, sugar-free diet. I'll let myself slide sometimes when I'm out with friends, but honestly, I don't miss anything.- Re: MY EC IS GONE !!!! warriorqueen

tjhooper, you nailed it !! i don't need to add anything to what you said, about cooking etc.. you got it. its about taking candida feeding foods out of recopes and replacing with safe ingredients..
for people who don't cook and eat prepared food or eat bread daily, it will be hard to try candida free diet. but it is the perfect time to get into cooking!! as tjhooper says candida diet food isn't bad at all, you can still eat fish and meat (i dont eat it by choice), eggs etc.. - Re: MY EC IS GONE !!!! #128628

I guess I went off the diet too soon. But isn't the diet working faster for your lips, warriorqueen? I'm sorry, I forgot how long you've been on the diet?

This is a reply to # 1,735,837sorry, the diet didnt work for you, did you experience candida die-off symptoms? i think you must have because few months is long enough to get candida die-off. (im sure you know what it is, or please google..). hope candida die off didnt stop the diet cos it means your body is being healed..
few things to ask you... basic stuff
- have you had an allergy test?
- do you take ANY supplements? quitting them was a big YES for me.
- what kind of sweeteners did you use while you were on the diet?
- do you use all natural toothpaste?
- what kind of grains did you eat?
- did you follow step 1 (3 weeks) and step 2 (4 weeks) diet in order?
i have been off dairy for 7 years and off wheat for 4 months already before i stared candida free diet because of my allergy, so my body is used to restricted diet. it may have taken much much longer to cure my EC if i hadnt been allergic to those things.
i have tried lots of different things externally, organic balms, homeopathy creams, oils (coconut oil, avocado oil etc..), calendula, neem cream, Emu Oil, vitamin E oil, Aloe Vera, etc etc.. None of them was a definite answer to STOP EC.
so in my case, it was food ive been eating, though i do normally eat organic food and eat almost vegan. i considered myself as a healthy eater. but it wasnt good enough.

Congratulations on your success, and thank you for sharing with the group. Many of us have had peeling lips for much longer than you, so I think it's probable we wouldn't have as fast results as you.
I've had this for four years. I followed the anti-Candida diet for about 9 months total in 2 years and lost about 40 lbs. and drastically reduced my Candida overgrowth (tested normal but it did not cure the condition), and am now following a low-acid, organic, preservative-free, wheat- and dairy-free diet for about 6 weeks now, and have seen some improvement. Candida thrives in an acidic environment. Actually you might consider cutting out agave nectar entirely, as it slightly acidic, and substituting with raw honey (low-alkaline) or Stevia (most alkaline sweetener).
I definitely agree with you about condiments, which usually include vinegar or some preservative, which are acidic. It was also good to point out that you use Sea Salt -- which raw is alkaline, and refined is acidic. (I know people, it's maddening to keep track of it all, but honestly it's worth a shot!) Eat a ton of leafy green veggies and alkaline forming fruits, though not at the same time. Avoid tomatoes and dairy, although goat dairy is apparently alkaline. Keep eating healthy fats to stay in shape and not lose your mind (flaxseed oil, avocados, unrefined canola oil, fish oils, and coconut oil -- which is saturated fat but anti-Candida). Garlic and onions have great properties but some people's digestive systems react badly to them raw.
I definitely disagree with the popular notion with the Candida dieters that fungus are to be avoided at all costs. Shiitake, maitake, turkey tail, and chicken of the woods mushrooms all have anti-Candida properties. I think the acidity and alcohol in bread, beer, and other fermented sugary items is the issue rather than the Candida somehow feeding on yeast itself.
It would be great if you could put any pics of your lips at the height of the condition in the Image Gallery or on the wiki, with a description of how long you had it and all the other relevant allergies and topical or medicinal treatments you tried. Then update us later if the condition worsens or clears away.
