Thanks..yes, Roy Masters.. I dunno, I liked the premise of learning to observe thought, and not to get entangled with them or the following emotions, but I felt like this technique was almost like an avoidance or distraction away from thought as opposed to learning to fully accept and process them in a way where they flow right through you.
The reason I probably noted this was because sometime last year I worked with an NLP coach. His process of learning to be free from anxiety was to sit quietly with eyes closed and also try to accept whatever comes into the mind. He didn't tell me the secret, rather he wanted me to find out for myself. It was extremely hard to do in the beginning, only minutes at a time, but what I eventually found was that if I relaxed my body into the thought or feeling, it would eventually pass and go away. That was a real breakthrough for me because I realized that I had a habit of always recoiling and tensing my body, judging every thought. I saw in the end that scary thoughts were just paper dragons.. The wonderful thing about this simple practice is that it left me whole and restored. I much prefer this to the meditation.
What was it about the meditation that you did not feel comfortable about? Did you try it, also?
Thanks
