Hello! I found out about Iodine supplementation because I was looking for an answer to my acne. I had a number of symptoms of Iodine deficiency and I thought that Acne could be one of them. I'm just starting the supplementation but when I first started, I cleared up right away, but then I broke out again after 2 weeks. I'm just wondering if Iodine has cured any of your acne, and if iodine deficiency might be the reason for mine.
If any of you have cured your Acne with iodine supplementation, how long did it take? Did it get worse before it got better? Thanks so much!- Re: And if not, does it seem plausib... mango1

Because I know that Iodine is present in the skin, so maybe not having enough could cause Acne for me? Because of the way my skin cleared up for 2 weeks and then broke out maybe just because of bromide detox, it seemed like it was doing something, but I keep feeling so hopeless as it gets worse during this beginning phase. I just really want this to be the answer considering I think I've tried everything else!
Obviously I'd want to keep going with the Iodine anyway for all the other health reasons. But my acne makes me sad and I want to know if iodine deficiency could be the problem.

Iodine didn't help me deal with Acne and only made it worse. Acne is a symptom of a disrupted digestive system and you'll have to address that through nutrition. Going low carb, high fat and protein (LCHF) helped my Acne and other skin issues. Read the book 'Good calories, Bad calories' by Gary Taubes and you'll get the gist. After going low carb you can go even further - to zero carb, which is even better.- Re: And if not, does it seem plausib... mango1

This is a reply to # 2,068,224I mean, I have tried that, as well as every diet I could think, of including Elimination Diets and none seemed to have any effect. I do eat really healthy still of course, and mostly vegetables. Acne can be a sign of lots of different things though, people are different and everyone has a different story on what cured them. Some clear up with no dairy or no gluten or just eating better. Some people are allergic to something and it shows up as acne. Switching from tap water to fluoride free water and fluoride free toothpaste helped me quite a bit, which makes me wonder if it's halide related, but I mean, I don't know. Thanks though, I'll definitely check out that book, looks good. I had read somewhere that Acne can sometimes be a symptom of Iodine deficiency, I just haven't seen much of anything to back it up.

This is a reply to # 2,068,237Well, you obviously didn't try LCHF diet or zero carb... especially, if you state that you eat lots of veggies, which aren't necessary for health. Carbs make your Acne worse.
And no, all people are essentially the same, we aren't different. It's just another myth. We just have different toxic load, that's all.

Well, I guess we'll see. I did try a very low carb diet for a few months with no effect, not even a little change so I was discouraged. I suppose I could try again.

This is a reply to # 2,068,248To understand why, you'd have to research the subject a lot more on your own. I've given your some hints already. Think.
Acne is an immune reaction, and it would obviously go away for a while when you suppress your immune system with something. Then it gets back, and again and again, until you deal with the underlying cause, which is nutrition.
And low carb means a lot less carbs than you could've eaten (i.e., less than 50gr a day).- Re: And if not, does it seem plausib... mango1

-I think you are into something. Of my two teenage boys, one have some acne; he is the only one that was given fluoride tablets; for his teeth when we didnt know better..
Iodine have helped him in many ways, but not so as much as I hoped with the acne. A little less inflamed, though.

That IS interesting. I don't know if I was given fluoride tablets or not, but I do have one dental fluorosis spot, so I did get too much fluoride somehow. I'm 30 with very dry skin so it's not the usual oily skin type acne. My skin does get better when I don't consume any fluoride, but not all the way better, so I was wondering since Iodine is supposed to help you deal with the other halide toxins, if that could be what I'm missing, since it's pretty impossible to avoid fluoride/bromide completely! I'll try it for a few months and see what happens.
Although, right now I'm only taking 1 drop of Lugol's 2% and from what I'm reading it's not enough. I had gone up to 3 drops but I just had such terrible detox symptoms (acne, rash, cherry angiomas, bloating and just felt icky) so I went back down to 1, but that was before I found this forum and learned that I should raise the dose. But my skin had been totally clear on 1 drop/day and then came back when I increased to 3. Do you think it's ok to work up to more Iodine this slowly?- Re: And if not, does it seem plausib... This is a reply to # 2,068,462Some recommend the slow route, check out Grizz` post about it. Based on my own experience I would jump right in; as it is reported back numerous times at this forum an easier detox on the higher dosages, like 100 mg +

This is a reply to # 2,068,358I change the pillowcase, and have tried the acne.org regimen but am allergic to benzoyl peroxide. I have mild, but persistent, Acne with verrry dry skin. Since my skin is so dry it doesn't seem like the usual acne, and most topical Acne stuff seems to just make it worse and it's been best with super mild stuff like just manuka honey or something like that that doesn't irritate. I've had Acne for 3 years and I'm 30, and I think that my acne may have started around the time when I stopped buying bottled water and hooked up the fridge filter, but even now that I've stopped drinking fluoride, the problem is still there.
I've tried several different diets, I've tried dairy free, gluten free, almost no sugar, and low carb diets, but since none seemed to have any effect at all I am currently just eating my normal diet which is lots of veggies, some dairy and avoiding carbs a bit but not strictly.Advertisement

Some filters are now adding fluoride so you may want to recheck any filters.
Also is your skin so dry that it is flakey? This along with a rash OR what looks like Acne can really be perioral dermatitis. Just a thought...

This is a reply to # 2,068,507Yeah! I just looked at the wiki page and it says it is "commonly caused by the use of fluorinated topical glucocorticoid steroids." I DO have asthma, but I use ProAir which I don't think is a steroid one, and it's not on the list of fluorinated/brominated meds. Also about a year ago, I didn't use it for about 3 weeks to see if it helped, that is sort of difficult for me but still reasonably doable, and I didn't see any improvement. Maybe it would just take a bit longer, though? I'll try that again, if it doesn't improve with the iodine. Thanks!

This is a reply to # 2,068,518Well no matter what, in this toxic world we live in, iodine/iodide should be taken along with the cosupplements in my opinion. It takes a good amount of it and taken for long enough to do any detoxing though.
As for the possible perioral dermatitis...curezone and earth clinic have a lot of testimonials of what has worked for different people. Perhaps some of them might help?

That really sucks, but you have at least tried a lot already. You many have some dysbiosis going on in the guts, but in the meanwhile - how about some ideas:
1. Try a moisturizer with Vitamin E + B3 at the bare minimum, other ingredients should be fine like Vit. C, Aloe, Green Tea, and other oils to keep the skin barrier from losing moisture.
2. Eat more traditionally cultured and fermented foods, not commercially cultured foods.

This is a reply to # 2,067,825I have been dealing with cystic Acne for years. I finally felt like I cracked the code but now that I am taking Iodine 12.5 mg, it is coming back. Ugly. I am sticking with the Iodine but really need to get this under control.
This is my action plan:
1) Salt Loading Protocal-
2) Estroblock -has been a lifesaver. Can find on Amazon.
3. Intestinal Movement Formula. Lifesaver. Ran out for over a week. Could have contributed
4. Liver Cleansing Formula. Also had run out.
5. Zero dairy except Ghee. All Organic.
Adding Zinc and Selenium.
Making sure I am doing co-nutrients.
