Well no matter what, in this toxic world we live in, iodine/iodide should be taken along with the cosupplements in my opinion. It takes a good amount of it and taken for long enough to do any detoxing though.

As for the possible perioral dermatitis...curezone and earth clinic have a lot of testimonials of what has worked for different people. Perhaps some of them might help?
