I started taking Nystatin powder (1tsp mixed with water split into 3 doses daily) and have been passing more and more of this junk. Some of it looks healthy and alive and some of it is like hard dried up and dead looking. Is this candida ??

This is a reply to # 2,231,718That is what we call here on CZ a "rope" or "string". It is actually a biofilm symbiotic colony of candida yeast and bacteria and minerals (calcium, magnesium, and iron). It attaches at one end to the wall lining of your colon and floats freely like a streamer in your colonic chyme. It doesn't have to go anywhere, it' meals come to it. Quite diabolical if you ask me.

On a more serious note, how long does that kind of stuff take to form? Is this the product of years of SAD, pizza Antibiotics and beer?
Supplementing more minerals like calcium and magnesium won't contribute to it, will it?

This is a reply to # 2,231,773Yes, they probably take a year or more to form. The longer in length they are, the longer in time they've been growing. Are you doing enemas? Did they come out from doing a cleanse enema? That's how I first noticed mine. While calcium and magnesium are such important nutrients it would be foolish to stop taking them, I did stop taking iron. I'm not anemic.
You can attack these biofilm "ropes" by taking digestive enzymes. You can read about how I approached it by reading this post:

I'm taking nystatin, digestive enzymes, diatomaceous earth, enemas (nystatin, probiotic and coffee) and ozone therapy (rectal insufflation).
My health totally collapsed around a year ago and I'm on a mission to get back on my feet. I had my Amalgams removed around 4 months ago and have recently started DMSA. (Urine metal challenge showed high hg, lead and nickel).
I've been eating a pretty restricted diet due to intolerances etc but I'm worried it may in some way contribute to these things?
I'm following what could be described as a pretty restricted gaps diet. Meat, good fat and low carb veg. All organic. I'm worried about being too low carb though. If I added back in things like squash, carrots etc, do you think it would contribute to the growth of these things? I've been feeling considerably better since getting rid of this stuff.

This is a reply to # 2,231,845The practitioner I'm working with reckons 2 months minimum for the Nystatin. I've currently been taking it for around 1 month. It's helping me get rid of alot of junk (as you can see from the picture).
I'm using the Nystatin to kick out the yeast while reintroducing beneficial bacteria. Currently I'm using BioKult (as reccommended by NCM of the GAPS diet). I had a tough time handeling any fermented foods or probiotics when I was really sick. The die off was just too much. Recently I've been able to tolerate around 4-6 capsules of BioKult a day and have a new batch of Sauerkraut culturing on the bench that I'm going to try and introduce in the next week or so. I believe that regaining control over the digestive tract is one of the key goals here.
As far as the enemas go, I'll do a plain water enema daily. The reason I do this is because I take rectal Ozone insufflations. The plain water clears out the colon and allows the Ozone to be fully absorbed.
I'll do a coffee enema once or twice a week. I've currently done 2 Nystatin/probiotic enemas and plan on doing a few more of them, again once or twice per week.
I'm always tweaking my strategy as new problems are always coming to the surface. I've found biofeedback to be a big help!Advertisement

My last question: how on earth did you find a practitioner willing to work with you regarding candida?
Did you go through a naturopath? My GP is entirely useless. I see people with stories about how they've found professionals to help them heal, but I can't seem to accomplish this myself.
Did you use Google? Recommendation from a friend? Just wondering about the process here.

This is a reply to # 2,231,908My GP was more than useless so I can relate to you on that one.
I found my way to my current doctor by accident actually. Back when I was really bad I was struggling to move my bowels and despite having done a few enemas at home, I wanted to have a colonic done professionally so I could be sure I was doing everything correctly myself. I googled for a clinic and as it transpired the main doctor working at the place I attended turned out to be a private heavy metal toxicologist doing a lot of work with mercury toxic patients and children with autism.
Given that Hg and candida go hand in hand there was no convincing necessary. Intact I had a few labs done that showed no candida. My doctor insisted that it must be there and of course he was right. I'm very great full to have his assistance.
If you're looking for a practitioner, why not try mercolas tip and visit a mercury dentist and ask them who's the best person to see re metals and candida? Or even ask around at your local health food stores etc?

This is a reply to # 2,231,810Squash is probably fine. Carrots though are high in sugar. Peas also have too much Sugar but snow peas are probably OK. Corn is a big no no - Sugar and starch. Potatoes of any kind are also off limits. I've heard people say that eating some carbs is good for the immune system. I think you have to be far enough down the road in having killed most of the yeast overgrowth to start experimenting with something like that. If you are pooting out "ropes", you are not there yet. I'm afraid of doing carbs for fear of losing ground to the candida. I know that the Candida doctor here on CZ (can't remember his name) has a cookie cutter schedule that allows for you to start re-introducing carbs back into the diet after X number of weeks on his protocol. HA! That is way too simplistic. Each person is different. Somebody like me who has had candida for over 20 years (I only started getting serious about it for 1 year) will require LOTS more time before trying to add carbs back into my diet.

I don't think people handing out cookie cutter advice really relise the extent of some peoples issues. Getting in to bio feedback has been a real help to me recently. Listening to my own body rather than random advice.
My biggest issue right now is sorting out my chelation. I don't seem to be doing well with DMSA and I'm quite Hg toxic. I think this is a big factor behind my candida.

This is a reply to # 2,231,898I think I'm going to embark on a similar strategy. I like the idea of doing Cutlers frequent low dose with ALA but I don't think i'm quite there yet. I'm hoping Chlorella will help me get closer to where I need to be.

This is a reply to # 2,231,969I suspect that my candida was caused by a combination of Antibiotics (although I never took that many courses of ABs), poor diet (I would sometimes binge on sweets, pastries, etc.), drinking beer and wine, and smoking pot and cigarettes. When I gave all that up in 2006 I thought the candida would go away. It didn't and so I started taking antifungals and experienced die off but still the candida persisted. Anyway, starting 1 year ago I started doing heavy duty research on the problem and have made slow but steady progress. I am close (95%) to normal. My experience tells me that I still have to be cautious. Introducing carbs right now could set me back. But I am hopeful I can eat a "normal" diet in perhaps 1 year. I plan to eat a paleo diet and not the super strict candida diet.
I don't think mercury is the cause of all candida but probably contributes to some peoples' problem. I had a molar extracted that had a large Amalgam back in August. That's when I got on chlorella and zeolite. I take ALA daily for reasons other than chelation.
Do you get your blood checked for mercury levels? If so, is it going down much?Advertisement

This is a reply to # 2,232,010So far I've had only 1 urine DMSA challange test for heavy metals. This showed elevated levels of lead, mercury and nickel. It's been about 4 months since I had my Amalgams removed and my practitioner recently gave me some DMSA to take. The advice was to take 500mg twice a week. I've done this twice but after the last time I ended up with horrible anxiety and have felt like crap for the last few days. Pretty much experiencing an increase in mercury symptoms. I don't know if the dose was too high, or if it was a detox type reaction, but either way i'm not comfortable continuing with it. Thats why I'm considering chlorella at this stage. The problem is there seems to be conflicting ideas about how safe it is.
So far, i'm a bit stuck on this one. Once I get my chelation figured out, i'll most likely re-test in a few months time.

dont doctors ever find these things while doing colonscopy etc? ive heard they say theres never anything in the colon (mucoid plaque etc does not exist acc to them)
then theres the folks who said John Wayne died with 30 lbs of impacted crud in his colon.
