Hello! I'm looking for a fasting partner for a 30 to 40 day water fast. I've completed some short fasts over the last year and my longest was 25 days which was very successful in terms of weight loss and overall health benefits. I completely healed the inflammation in my left leg, cleared up my acne, and lost 35 pounds, 20 of which I managed to keep off. Before the fast I would gain and lose the same 15 pounds time and again, since completing the fast unfortunately I gain and lose the 15 pounds, but in a lower weight bracket if that makes sense. So while I lost the 20 pounds, I still gain and lose 15 but I never got back to my original weight. It's strange, almost like I convince myself to stop being a super-pig before I go over a certain amount but then I can't let myself get below a certain amount either before I go super-pig again. I know it's self sabotage and my therapist says it's psychological, but I really need to lose more weight, get healthy, and stop with this yo-yo crap. I want to do a really long fast because I know that the longer you fast the more health benefits you get and of course the more weight you lose. Lately I've been trying to start the fast but I can't get past the first day for some reason. I think if I had a fasting buddy where we could hold each other accountable and support one another when the other is feeling like giving up then I'd have a better chance at success. So if anyone is interested then let me know and thank you in advance!

This is a reply to # 2,392,859I'm starting a complete fast in 30 minutes: midnight East Australian time, 29th November, 2017.
Here is a post you might have already read, just giving you some background on me:
"I am a 57 year old man, name of Michael Fitzgerald.
I practice yoga and meditation daily, so, while I have good mobility, strength and tenacity, I also suffer from the following:
1. Liver and lung scarring,
2. Digestive woes.
3. Lifelong tinitus, which is worsening,
4. Periodic involuntary limb movement syndrome, which has robbed me of sleep for 45 years,
5. Arthritis in knees, fingers and toes,
6. Severe lower back pain
7. Hyperthyroidism
I don't want to just yield to the inertia in these conditions, bending month by month to the death-grip pull of illness and premature aging.
I want the kinds of "therapeutic crises" that the old writers like Upton Sinclair witnessed in 100s of folks of all ages and sizes, from liver cyrhosis to incipient bowel cancer to lung disease.
I want to fast till all the fat is gone (I've got about 50 lbs of it!), till my metabolism starts to consume the dead scarred tissue in my hepper's liver (virus-free now) and my ex-choofers lungs, till autophagy begins to absorb the inflammation in my knees, and brings me to a new beginning with regard to my lifelong addictive behaviour.
That's why I want to fast to completion and only break fast when I experience "true hunger" for the first time in my life."
I'm going ahead as of now, having supped my last meal of toast and marmalade and coffee (yum); off to bed soon.

This is a reply to # 2,393,012I will fast with you. I am in the USA, Eastern Standard Time. I will begin an 18 day Water Fast in the next three minutes. It will be 9 pm (EST) on November 30th. Gulp!
I've water fasted before, but this will be my longest. Each time I water fast, it's extremely hard for me to start.
I'm a female, 45, 198 lbs. I have been working a lot to detoxify lately and want to lose some weight so I have more energy to play with my four-year-old son. I am also hoping to remineralize a tooth, or at least arrest a tiny cavity.

How is it going?
Just finishing day 3: tongue coated in white film, tired, sore all over, I still managed to do a couple of kms pace-walking with my dog.
I felt waves of pessimism today, mingled with grieving at "loss" of eating rights, and fear at the chasm of time opening up in front of me, unpalliated by the simple pleasure and distraction of food preparation and eating.
You know what I do, and what I think is going to get me through (because I am truly, unwaveringly determined to go through to finding my true hunger (whether this takes 45 or 65 days, losing ALL my fat lining my viscera and hanging in unsightly curves around my back, man-boobs (ughr) and bum), what i do is immediately focus on my breathing.
When walking, this is easy, as walking releases endorphins and makes it easy for one to focus: just focus on the present moment, be entirely present to yourself as your feet make alternating contact with ground and then the air, as they swing forward for the next step; or attend to the breathing: this has the wonderful effect of taking the mind off what the amygdala perceives as a threat to your survival (the negative, pessimistic, fearful, grieving thoughts), lowers the stress hormones and makes you feel simply happier and content with the moment.
VERY, VERY POWERFUL practice: if you are not already making this your daily "meat and drink", I advise you strongly to look into it (I can give you references to resources if you need them)

This is a reply to # 2,393,506Thank you for the good advice! I'm doing fine because I'm only 9 hours in. At least, I woke up remembering I had started a fast. That's the big thing for me. I will report back as the day goes on.
Happy and Healthful Fasting to you! I have always found Days 3 & 4 to be the hardest. If you can make it past them, you will find yourself in the happy fasted state. Your body will thank you in the long run.
