It's official: diet definately affects skin. Not that I didn't already know/suspect this, but...
After a recent week-long vacation with my hubby visiting relatives, my skin broke out with a great number of small, lovely cysts (mainly cheeks/chin, my problem areas). When I left I had no new blemishes, but by the time I got back there were several.
This is what I ate, and I know were the culprits:
homemade brownies
homemade chocolate chip cookies
fried southern foods
white bread galore
pizza
soda pop
daily coffee (I normally drink green tea in the AM)
and lastly, started to get constipated and I'm usually quite regular (although ideally we should be having more than one bm a day)
ice cream just about every night
Since I was on vacation I figured I would be "bad" and indulge (boy did I!) lol...plus it's hard when everyone bakes homemade (junk that is) down south...
Now I'm home and back on the wagon:
with supplements (Leo Kiessens Acne solution), EFA's, ground flax seed, green tea, miso vegetable soup, coconut oil,etc...
also started back up with the p&b shakes to clean out, and started paragone...already the blemishes are healing. I've been back for less than a week!
For anyone suffering with acne, please try the cleanses recommended here and change your diet...then if you want to test, go back to eating junk and see what your skin does. I've yet to complete a liver flush, but am working on diet and bowel cleansing...my self-discipline comes in waves and sometimes I fall off and eat crap. But each time I get back on track it seems to last a bit longer.
Obviously there are people that have great baby smooth skin and seem to eat/drink whatever with no effect to their skin. My husband has great skin, but he also suffers a plethora of digestion problems and headaches....none of which I get (or rarely). So, toxins manifest in people differently... This recent breakout is great in a way because my husband saw a difference and is becoming more of a believer in what I'm doing and spending $ on all of these supps, etc... He is another story altogether with digestion problems, but he wants to started doing the shakes with me and said he wants to start feeling healthier...hallelujah!

i am wondering which supplements you take for the last Acne solution. i think it;'s the regimen i take- vit E, A, B's, EFA,
i can't remember all of them- i have them at home.
would you mind sharing which supplents you take?
also- what has helped me was doing enemas/colonics and liver cleansing.

daily
opti-zinc
lecithin granules
vit. e (natural mixed tocopherols, NOT synthetic)
ester-c or emergenc with msm
selenium
alpha lipoic acid
skin akn (cleansing herbs)
digestive enzymes
kefir
raw coconut oil
total efa
olive leaf extract
**I drink roughly at least 100 oz of filtered water in a day
I eat tomatos almost daily with carrots, so I only take an occasional beta-carotene
occasionaly take milk thistle but want to wait until after liver cleanse to take liver re-building supps
morning cereal made from ground flax, raw pumpkin seeds, bee pollen (for b vits),cinnamon and stevia
veggie miso soup with tempeh
I plan on adding the following after bowel cleanse:
garden of life primal defense (probiotic)..I've already used it, but I hadn't cleansed my bowel yet.
I'd also like to start doing cultured veggies and get a sprouting kit to grow my own sprouts...will probably do in the next couple of weeks.
Thanks for the suggestion about colonics/enemas...I'm a returning college student and on a budget so the enemas would be a better option for me financially.
I've already had a couple of freakouts from my husband over the cost of these supps...plus he gets frustrated why there's so many! :) However, he's been slowly coming around and supporting me...he just gets overwhelmed with what each thing is for (understandably).

The 2 main vitmains you need for healthy skin are vitamin A and Riboflavin (vitmain b-2) these work together to create a healthy skin oil that flows out instead of stays in the pore. that way bacteria do not put up house in your skin.

This is a reply to # 674,413Yes, I wish I knew about the diet long ago. I'm in my early 40's and have Acne scarring and still some Acne flareups. From my nutritional research, the main culprits for Acne are:
- dairy products
- gluten (wheat, oats, barley, etc.)
- bad oils (anything besides coconut or olive)
- caffeine
Your list contains a lot of all of these - no wonder!
You are also right - different people excrete toxins in different ways.
Overall, though, acne is a classic sign of colon congestion. The cleanse can help tremendously, although sometimes additional "help" is needed to get that stuff off of the walls of the colon.
Be sure if you purchase a Colon Cleanse that it DOES NOT contain senna - although a natural ingredient, it actually makes you dependent on the product for a bowel movement - it does something to inhibit the natural muscular movements of the colon to eliminate.
I'd love to hear from anyone how to get the pores/scars from old acne to smooth out.

I've been colon cleansing for only a week and on my 4th day I started passing mucoid plague and have been every day since..this is my 8th day. I will continue with the bowel/ parasite cleanse for a while. I don't use senna...I've been doing psyllium and Bentonite shakes...I use the Aerobic Bulk Cleanse that has herbs that help to bust up mucoid. I was using another fiber before, but got mucoid ASAP after starting the ABC fiber. Also been drinking lemon juice with cayenne among other dietary
My next step in the journey is the liver flush. I'm so excited to see this junk leave my body...woohoo!! I've even been taking pictures of the disgusting stuff.
About Acne scars: I've had success using skinbiology's copper peptide serum (do a search here on it, I posted about it earlier)

This is a reply to # 674,481That's a hard one. Oats are definitely better than white bread, but oats are a source of gluten, which is on the "bad" list for acne. I'd eliminate them for awhile and see what happens. Or just have them every 3 or 4 days. You could try Ezekiel bread - it has wheat in it but it's sprouted grain, which acts as a vegetable instead of a grain.

This is a reply to # 674,496Corn is controversial. If you look at some celiac disease websites, some say that corn has gluten and some say it doesn't. My doctor says NO CORN but I do eat corn because grains are so limited otherwise. I do notice bad effects if I eat a lot of it. Steer clear of genetically modified corn.
Another thing, corn can be a grain (flour) or a vegetable (corn on the cob). It's better to eat it as a vegetable than as a grain.
If you want breakfast ideas, millet is the best grain. I buy it in bulk, soak it overnight, cook for 30 minutes. Mix with whatever you want - fruit, almond butter, plain yogurt, or all 3. It's quite tasty when you get used to it. I also have eggs for breakfast. Or I make a fruit smoothie and add the cooked millet to it (like a cup or so per pitcher) to make it more filling. I have also enjoyed quinoa but it has to be soaked very well as it can make you sick if you don't prepare it correctly. Let me know if you want any more details.
I have kids with allergies so breakfast has been evolving over the last few years. It's a tough meal because we're so used to bread and cereal. It doesn't have to be that way though. Just takes some adjusting.

Yogurt is beneficial food. It is not considered "dairy" per se because the fermentation breaks down the caseine in the food. Yogurt is not bad for Acne - however, if you buy the flavored stuff with corn syrup and other crud in it - that can be bad for your Acne (and body in general).
Millet - buy whole organic millet. Soak for a few hours or overnight. Cover with water and add a little organic lemon juice or plain yogurt to start the fermentation (predigestion). Drain water and use new water for cooking. Cook with 1 part millet to 3 parts water and simmer for 25-30 minutes. The last few minutes you might have to add more water. If you add a tablespoon or two of coconut oil it will add a nice flavor and reduce chances of burning on the bottom.
There are a million ways to prepare millet, but this is what I do. If you do a google search you will find out how versatile it is.
Quinoa - if you buy it whole, it needs to be soaked and drained as above. Or, if you want it easier, buy the already process quinoa flakes (looks like oats) and they cook up very quickly as a quick hot cereal.
If you don't have time in the morning to cook the cereals, cook them anytime and refrigerate. They are good cold or hot in my estimation.
