Re: will a hysterectomy cure hirsutism
It really depends on what is causing the hirsutism. If you have hirsutism with other symptoms, such as irregular periods, weight gain or inability to lose weight, infertility, hair loss, feeling cold, etc., you could have either PCOS which is polycystic ovaries syndrome, or hypothyroidism, as examples. Those illnesses involve other complex interactions between your endocrine system; I don't believe a hysterectomy would work with hypothyroidism. With PCOS, removal of the ovaries in a complete hysterectomy would theoretically work, since that is where the hormone altering cysts are growing. But, that is a serious action, and would initiate menopoause. You should go to the doctor and get blood tests done. I know it's expensive without insurance, but it's worth it if you can save for it. I was diagnosed with PCOS, and that involves the way luteinizing hormone is used in your body, as well is having issues with insulin resistance. And, there is no cure, only treatments, which I am sorry to say, are very lacking in actual relief. For hirsutism, your doctor might prescribe Vaniqa cream which you use twice a day for the rest of your life. It doesn't remove hair, but slows down the growth. If that doesn't work there are other pills that are available, but they have side effects. I have thoroughly investigated natural remedies for hirsutism, as well as PCOS, and have found quite a few that really work well. But, like I said, start with blood tests so you know where to begin. Good luck, best wishes.
