Warning about Bragg's recipes
We've been using the recipes in the Lifeforce book for all our dinners and some of our lunches. Last night I made a stir fry using chicken, broccoli, snap peas, water chestnuts and onions. I put a healthy amount of Bragg's in, not thinking anything of it, since there's no fat, sugar, calories, etc. in it. If any of you have been following my posts, you'll remember that I have been struggling to lose weight on this protocol (weight loss should come as an easy side effect of the program, as it is very low carb, high protein), as has my husband, who never has had a problem losing weight. Well when we got up this morning and weighed in, my husband had gained 3 lbs! and I had gained 1 lb! At first we couldn't figure out why this kept happening and why we were not only creeping in our weight loss, but gaining weight so easily - especially since we weren't eating hardly any fat or carbs and low calories. On a whim, I looked at the Bragg's label and it said that it had 150 mg. of sodium per 1/2 tsp.! WHAT?! Oh my God, suddenly it all made sense! The thing is, not only does the Bragg's have a humongous amount of sodium in it, but most of the recipes in the book call for additional salt added to the recipes. I wasn't worried about the salt by itself, because due to having to drink so much water and sweating, minimal salt intake is fine, in fact may be needed, due to so much water intake. We both slept horribly last night and I had to sleep with all the ocvers off, due to sweating profusely. My husband told me he was so dehydrated after dinner that he got up several times during the night to get water. He even drank four bottles of water after dinne, from being so thirsty from the meal. We also live in one of the most humid parts of the U.S. and that is only adding to the sweating issue.
The other thing is, Bragg's is made from Soy protein. If any of you have thyroid issues like I do, you are supposed to stay away from Soy. Soy is not allowed on the diet, but we are allowed Bragg's, which I never really understood. All this time I thought it was the fruit and was going to give it up. Now we know it is the Bragg's. This is just a head's up for those of you who are trying to lose weight on the protocol, as well as get rid of the candida, or if you have thryoid issues. My thyroid has actually been sore off an on this morning. Since I cannot tolerate thyroid meds, and I have a pretty good case of it, I am going to look into acupuncture. It is non-invasive in as far as not having to worry about side effects from it, and you don't inject deadly chemicals.
