I am pretty sure there is a benefit to colloidal especially if that colloidal is very, very small because of duration of effectiveness.
I am speculating but if for instance I wanted to keep down Staph or Strep then higher colloidal content would be better since the lifecycle of these critters can be extremely short and the colloidal portion would be much better in wiping out 2, 3 and more generations of the bug.
That said; Lyme, Rickettsia and the other mycoplasma critters have very long lifecycles so if the ionic reaches the critter the deed is done.
