I don't think it ever was a mole!
hi, i posted on here a while back, about a "mole" i thought i had gotten, I'm pretty sure it wasn't there before, I think it popped up recently. It's on the upper part of my left arm, kind of towards the inner arm area, about an
inch up from my elbow.....
but see, at that time, i was dealing scabies, on the same arm, and it was itching me so badly, all over the arm! Well, that lovely little experince lasted about 3 or more weeks, always worse at night , as is usual with scabies! I had that happen to me once, many years ago, so i knew right away what it was. I put lots of oil of oregano on it, and anti itch stuff and what not...but boy, oh boy, what a pain in the neck! Could hardly sleep! Well, anyway........it was about 3/4 of the way through that time, that i suddenly, by accident noticed this sort of "mole" looking thing, on the back of the SAME ARM...on the upper arm, underside. OK, so, at first, i freaked out, thinking skin cancer! geez.......but, mostly everyone who looked at it, said it wasn't htat at all...it didn't bleed, itch, grow, whatever....but I knew i hadn't had it there before. It was a weird looking thing though, .. it was no bigger than a pencil eraser, but it wasn't perfectly round either, which, i have since found out is not as panicky as they make it sound, i have some friends who have "moles" that are not perfectly shaped round or oval..in fact, they are kind of shaped a little strangely, and have been checked out, adn are fine...so...ok. Well, over the period of this last month, that darned thing, went from looking like a "mole",...dark brown, kind of thickish skin, and it sort of looked like a "star" , at least to ME....now, i had my husb. and 3 sons look at this too, EVERYDAY, ALL DAY..lol...they each saw something diff. which is normal, and sometimes one would see a change that the other wouldn't....sometimes I would see a change that they wouldn't. These "changes" were not BIG changes, just small minute ones, but it would sometimes change overnight, or even during the day. It would also go from dark brown to light brown, sometimes in one day, and then back again...this was amazing. I had read on a good medical site, that if you see changes that take place frequently, even daily, then it most likely is NOT cancerous, but some kind of irritation that is causing it, and then also, i was touching it a lot.
OK, so,.........i made an appt. with my dr. for Oct. 8th, on Wed.....but i had to wait a whole month! So, during this month, i've researched and read everything there is to know about moles, skin tags, melanoma,...i could write my own book by now....but, let me just tell you what happened.....during this month, as i said, it KEPT CHANGING...frequently! Finally, it began to get sort of "dry", and at that point, it would FEEL lke it itched somewhat, but see, i still had the scabies, so I coudlnt' tell if it was the "mole" thingy, or the scabies right around it.....so, i would put anti itch cream on it, and my arm. Which thank God, stopped the itch.
Finally, after about a week of that, i noticed that one night, as i was scratching the arm, AROUND the mole thing, (trying very hard NOT to come to close to it to scratch it) I DID accidently scrape against it with my nail, and a piece of the brownish colored stuff...flaked off. So, that was interesting. Well, after that, i began to notice, over the next few days, that, other little pieces of the brownish "crust" were also flaking off, falling off. This ALMOST seemed like a scab, but it was to thick to be a REGULAR SCAB,say when you would fall down, and skin your knee....the scab that would form over it, usually isn't THICK....well, this was SORT OF thick. But, pieces of the brownish stuff, were flaking off...piece by piece.
A friend of mine mentioned to me, that he had had this years ago...something very very similar. In his case, it also started out looking like a "mole", and one he hadn't seen before either. As if it had just sort of popped up. Well, as the weeks went by, and he would look at it, it would ALSO change shape, and color....it began to get purpleish, darker brown, then lighter brown, just plain ugly.....it was also raised, like mine is......now, in a few weeks, his ALSO dried up somewhat, and ALSO flaked off...leaving behind, an area, about the size of a pencil eraser, of just raised skin, a little darker than his normal skin color.....well, guess what...that's exactly what's happed to me....and his turned out to be a WART! holy cow!
So, in the end, what i'm left with now, just a few days before my dr.'s appt. is.....basically, sort of a "square" shaped piece of skin, about the size of a pencil eraser, and it's SLIGHTLY darker than my reg. skin color.....I am very fair, so my skin color is pretty light .... it is raised, not A LOT, but raised up somewhat....it feels rather smooth i'd say.....and there are about two tiny little dots, of the dark brown crusty stuff left on there, very tiny. I don't know what to make of this. You do realize, of course, that this month has been a month from HELL........with me panicking all over the place that it's skin cancer.
I was told, by a nurse on the block here, that it's not, bec. if it were, I'D KNOW IT! it would get big and black, and grow, and itch badly (not sometimes, like this did).....and so forth. Then, I did a stupid thing, i googled it again! This time, i found this medical site, that said, ok, a mole, can actually "disappear", so you think it's gone, when really, it's gone UNDER THE SKIN, and is spreadiing the melanoma under there! Well, that was lovely! I freaked out! So, then, instead of me being happy that it was indeed getting better, the brownish crusty stuff had flaked off....(oh wait....they also mentioned, that it can become crusty and flake off too, which really threw me into a panic), now i had become MORE panicky! My poor husband and sons were beside themselves, trying to help me deal with this, and calm me down. NOBODY taht has seen this, thinks this is melanoma....but you know how this goes...you get something into your head, and that's it.....and since i keep touching it, now, it feels "raw" aroudn there, and even the skin and muscles under there ache! OH GEEZ, I AM A MESS!
when i see the dr. it'll nearly be gone, except for the "square" little piece of raised up skin ..... what the heck is this, a wart? liek what happ.d to my friends cousin? DARN! I don't care, when i see him, i am making him take a biopsy, and send it in.....i have to know for sure...
anyway,,,,,ANY HELP AND INFO. would be greatly appreciated here! does this sound lke anything serious.........and PLEASE.....don't scare me anymore than i already am....
THANK YOU ALL FOR LISTENING TO THIS PANICKY WOMAN! (also, you should know, i'm in the "change of life"...better known as perimenopause....which is a "killer" on it's own....and the nurse said to me, that due to changing hormonal levels, you can get all sorts of skin problems.....not to mention the scabies and the fact that it was on the same arm, same place, and that scabies can also do this, make a "welt" sort of, then crust over, and then it goes away) ....thank you all.!
