Re: heading to the health food store, seek advice
I don't have a specific suggestion with respect to sea salt. My feeling is that a lot of sea salts are marketed with fancy names and high prices but if you look at their actual mineral content, the differences are very small. Use your intuition on this one.
As far as vegetables for an alkalyzing broth, the first priority is highest BRIX. Then since you are low in sodium you can look for veggies higher in natural sodium. Moreless has mentioned in the past things like celery, cabbage, and green beans. The problem is that I have yet to find consistent sources of good quality celery and cabbage.
So it is back to quality as measured by BRIX. Do you have a refractometer?
Just to let you know the impact of NPN, lately I have refrained from eating any vegetables that measure low BRIX and sharp (NPN) on the refractometer. Mind you in the absence of these I have been replacing this with small amounts of foods that I have traditional regarding as acidifying foods (good quality meats and whole grains).
The bottom line is my overall health has actually improved and I am eating very little leafy green vegetables except on the rare occasion that I can find some of sufficient quality.
So my fruit and vegetable diet is basically down to:
good quality summer fruits (ie peaches, grapes, pluots)
white onions
sweet potatoes
green beans
basil (which I make into pesto)
cilantro
Again these are the foods that I can find in decent quality in my area according to the refractometer. Your list may be different but the principle is the same.
