I had a crown put on after breaking a molar 10 years ago on a... jawbreaker. Upon an x-ray, there was definite evidence of infection recently.

Not sure what to do to kill the infection. I know I need to get the crown off and get a proper fix for the tooth. But, I don't want to be robbed, cause the dentist said: "I want to send you to a specialist!" I thought: "This sounds expensive!"

Any ideas?
