Andreas Moritz ' book, coconut oil is placed in the 'Reduce' list of food items for Vata types. The book states it's about the only oil that will not oxidize upon heating, making it the ideal cooking oil. So why would Vatas want to avoid it, according to the book? Well, I guess because it's a cooling oil and Vatas need mainly heating foods and oils that trigger bile release -which coconut oil doesn't do, bile not needed to digest it-, but then there's the line: "With the exception of Kapha types, the average person can safely consume up to 3.5 tbsp. of it a day"... Would it aggravate Vata to use Coconut oil for cooking, or having a teaspoon here and there, without discarding the heating oils? Are the Polinesian islanders who've so benefited from eating coconut oil for years all Pitta types?
Oddly enough Amadea Morningstar's Ayurvedic cookbook reverses these positions, with all oils allowed for Vatas and advised "in moderation" for Pittas, even as it differentiates between cooling and heating oils. So are there any benefits in coconut oil for Vatas or are they better off avoiding it ?
Thanks a lot.
