Re: Denial

Denial is probably why I post here
in the forum. It feels some days like
primal screaming and beating my fists
on the wall since there is no one else
to beat against. My family, who I love
as much as one could, are in denial.
I have become the enemy. Not in a I-will-
kill-you-if-you-come-an-inch-closer sort
of way, but in the Pleeeeeeeeeease do not
tell us what you know, sort of way. I
actually got an email basically saying
they did not want to know what I was
finding. I could see the fear in the
words they wrote. Then came the loss
of the phone calls that used to be so
playful and carefree. We would joke as
if we were just big kids. Then came the
phone calls finally, but you could hear
the unspoken rule...the Oil Spill was
"off limits" in conversation. The fun
and laundry lists of escapades has been
replaced with each of us swapping news
of what our kids are doing. Anyway, I
know a little how you are feeling, being
the bearer of sorts, of bad news. Truth
is the enemy in this fiasco and British
Petroleum is spending a million a week
to reinforce the hopes of those living
on the Gulf that life as they knew it
is merely around the corner, one step
past this major "oops" of theirs.

Meanwhile, I find myself wondering
what is happening since the campaign
to put this behind us, like in Katrina,
in Haiti, in the other disasters like
the flooding in Tennessee, where the
media does a lot less than dig for the
truth and is merely reporting. Its my
job, ma'am, no more, no less, no truth
to be found when there is money to be
made at glossing over and distracting
the public from the woes of the world...

...the sad part, is even the aftermath
will be slicked down and forgotten. In
another 5 years, 10 years, we will have
commemorative segments looking back on
the spill. All the pain and lies and
death and illness will never make the
headlines then. Even Barack will be long
gone from office and Blackwater will
have undergone a few more name changes.

Hopefully time will fly, even when we
are having no fun...

Hang in there. Taking snapshots will
remind you surely. I am glad to have
the ones I do from my last day at the
beach at Gulf Shores. I doubt if love
or money could get me to lay around
on the sand there now.
