Re: Fat loss verses water weight

Water weight is mostly what comes off first. It does vary but would say unless you are very obese 5 to 10 might be a good guess. I went down 260 to 217 lowest on 40 day water 31/juice 9 basically fast. I hit 227 highest few weeks after fast on re feeding. I did eat normally and did eat quite a bit of salt and carbs both of which will hold water.I do retain some water as well.

Fought that down over 7 weeks to 222 and started this current fast at 222 now 204.4 today. Again likely 5 to 10 is water weight.
Thats why short fasts are kind of wastes of time although regular intermittent fasting can be useful to maintain or maybe drop weight slowly. Several kinds of that like Warrior Diet, FAST-5 and EAT STop EAT last two have websites.
I do eat stop eat and have been skipping breakfast post first fast with pretty good sucess at least in holding weight off but also do exercise too.

3 day fasts are not that great as you fight hunger on the short ones. By day 3 or so all the hunger is gone you have burnt up the glucogen in body and liver and now start really burning up the fat with ketosis. So really you have to go longer to do a good job and good to get down say 10 under goal weight so if you want to be 160 go to 150 so if you bounce up 10 not a big deal. how much water again varies. Some huge people might lose 30 or more pounds of water. Some thinner might lose only 5 pounds. As said I seemed to lose about 10 from that regain or maybe bit more. I was still not taking in much calories post fast and was doing fair amount of exercise as well. So maybe gained 12 whatever hard to say exactly.
You could of course try to eat very low carb and very low salt and less water weight would come back. but I like my carbs and bit of salt in my food.
