Re: Can Aspirin Lower Skin Cancer Risk?

What is your take on the herb Meadowsweet, which is naturally high in salicylic acid, the principal ingredient in aspirin?

I am familiar with it but never not done much with it.  Bought some back maybe 16-17 years ago, but that that was the last time I have seen it in a store.

I do use wintergreen oil quite a bit, which is also a rich salicylate source.

Actually a lot of plants contain varying levels of salicylates.  The most commonly used ones that are rich in salicylates are cayenne, wintergreen and sweet birch.  Mints can contain a fair amount as well.

Ginger contains the compound gingerol that is very similar in structure to aspirin and has the same benefits.

The main thing with the salicylate herbs is that people can have sensitivities to the salicylates.  And people on blood thinners like Coumadin (Warfarin) should stay clear of salicylate rich herbs.
