You are the one who knows better than anyone else what your dream means, but I'll take a stab at it to possibly giving you some hints.

My perception is that walking hand in hand with a guy you dated represents the relationship that you were in but he (regardless of who/what caused the breakup) threw you away which gave you the opportunity to discover the real you.  The bright shining star represents the real you!

We are each a very bright shining spirit, residing temporarily in our temple - our body, on Planet Earth.  So many of us have forgotten this fact and that may have been a reminder and a suggestion to look for your inner light, if you haven't begun to do so already.
