Re: Long-term use of ashwagandha - OK?

In a way I agree with you, herbs are dangerous, and especially ones with concoctions of different types. The reason pharma meds are so extreme, because say an anti depressant, hits so many receptors in the brain (seretonin, dopamine, histamine, adrenic (and some in bigger quantities dependong on the type of AD , SSRI, SNRI, SARI etc) that herbal concoctions that hit all those points, are equal imo to a pharma med. Someone taking Asha, St Johns Wart, Seriphos, Holy Basil (and there have been a few on here taking such concoctions).hits four major brain receptors..similar to a pharma pysch med.

Food however is used as fuel, if a person ate nothing but carrots, they would probably survive (albiet probably turn orange!), if they ate nothing but ashwa, they would die, so I cant put them into the same catagory personally.

500mg of Ashwa a day for two weeks, gave me the biggest withdrawals Ive ever had (until valium!), however I felt pretty good for those two weeks - the gaba connection I learnt later. If something s that powerful to work like that over two weeks, then long term use has to be dangerous, of course it does surely?

Have you got some clinical studies I could read about Asha and how it achieves its 'hormone balancing' effects? I would be really interested to have a gander
