Iodine is needed in the cells of the small intestines to produce carbohydrate digestion enzymes maltase, lactase, and sucrase... and doctors will tell Crohn's patients to eat fish to increase Iodine levels... but it looks like one of those diseases that nobody really knows enough about to say what exactly is causing it.
My partner was DX'd with Crohn's and it all started in his 20s.
