Re: Hey guys, I've finally found the antichrist!!

Loquat, is there a label for how I believe? For example, the scripture in one of these links spoke of Hosea marrying Gomer, and saying that it was only an allegory. Well I believe that there really was a Hosea and Gomer, yet there was a deeper meaning in their actions that God used for our better understanding of what He was doing. However, how is that any different than when Jesus went and healed the blind/sick? It was a real story, yet had a deeper meaning as to what He was really there to do for them. I keep hearing many of the authors you suggested warn that it's dangerous to believe literally, yet how is it not dangerous to believe the bible is full of allegories, when it's really a true story? What if I decided that Jesus turning the water into wine was just an allegory? Would it cause me to stop believing in miracles?

If the story of measuring a temple and the outer courts is mere allegory, how dangerous would that be if we are not expecting a real temple, nor a real anti-christ to be in that temple claiming he is god?

I'm sure there are plenty of examples like that in the bible. Where do you draw the line as to what is literal and what is simply allegorical?

Why not just believe literally and believe that there is a deeper meaning at the same time to where it would actually be safer in our understanding?
