Long time on Nystatin

My son has been on Nystatin for 6 months now. He is taking 9 of them a day. He has not had symptoms in months. The dr said he should take 9 pills broken up throughout the day for the next month - then he should be done.. is there a withdrawl that happens from the nystatin? Is it okay to just stop?
