What your mother is going through is not at all unusual for people with HCV. In fact, what Shering Plough, (makers of interferon), does not tell people, is that 50% of the people that get 'cured' get HCV back. So the cure rate is 25% at best. And, the TX combo kills your whole immune system. If you are genotype 2a or 2b, you have a fair chance of getting rid of it with the combo, but with any other genotype, your chances of getting rid of the virus is next to nothing.

The virus is everywhere in the body. It is in almost every blood cell, not just in your liver. So it hides. You come out 'non-detected' but there are a few cells in your bones, or in another organ. Then it replicates with a vengence, usually making your levels go higher than before. Viruses mutate. As Dr Zhang once told me, the HCV virus mutates every 1.5 hours.

We, who have HCV, are easy prey for every miracle cure that comes our way. The good news is, cirrhosis can be halted and reversed. It is not easy. Most people will not do the work or spend the time involved. Nor is it cheap. Two things to know are milk thistle will repair a damaged liver and reshi will help the body to make its own interferon. Also, Thymus will help boost the immune system and give you more energy, especially coming off the combo TX.

me from having to go on the TX. I do get weary of the protocol, but there is not much choice. You can call and email to speak with him. Get his book. It will show you are NOT alone and how you can repair your mom's damaged liver.

Another great source is Dr. Zhang in NYC. If you fax him blood work, he will know what to prescribe. He is a real MD with a Chinese medicine background. He also has a good protocol.

NO ONE, no MD's, naturopaths, homeopaths, know how to rid you of this disease. It is trial by error for each person. The only way to tell if things are working is to get bloodwork and MRI's done on a regular basis.

Another great way to go, if you can find an MD to do it, is Ozone therapy. If you look on this site, there is an Oxygen Therapy forum. Ozone kills everything that is not supposed to be in your body. Bacteria, viruses, pathogens, prions, on and on.
I think it is legal in 11 states. But protocols vary and you have to do your own research. You would need Ozone IV therapy. I do this and it works, but it, too, is expensive. And you have to do it enough to kill the virus. This is difficult to find because our gov't doesn't back it. The pharmaceutical industry lobbies against it because they can't make money on it.
