Re: Yellow Whey, Lumpy Kefir, methods, Need Advice

Well, it's been a couple days now and my grains are still a bit on the hard side. I have been diligent about not letting the kefir start to seperate too much. I have even tried putting them in the fridge for one cycle. I don't know what is wrong!

When I first got my grains they were white, gooey and plump. Now they are yellow-ish, non-gooey and sort of hard. My kefir has a great sour taste to it, but it's very thin. My friend had them in Raw goat milk, which I know is one of the best ways to keep your kefir grains. The milk I am using is store-bought Whole Organic cow milk. It's ultra-pasturized, which I know is not the best, but I cannot find ANY regular pasturized anywhere! Raw milk is not an option for me right now either, until we get our goats.

I'm using a plastic strainer a glass jar with plastic lid. I have about 3 TBSP in 2 cups of milk. I agitate the jar every few hours to get the grains in fresh milk...I'm basically doing everything I know to do. I've spent way too many hours researching these little guys and yet I cannot get them well.

Will they ever snap out of this,as long as I keep taking good care of them?
