Pills treat a symptom, not an illness or person. SAD, like any other illness, needs to be treated so as to be cured. Artifical sunlamps can be found at very affordable costs if a person is willing to look for one. I found mine at e-bay for a drop in the bucket of the regular cost.

The thing with SAD is that it is a very really problem. That problem can be addressed with some life style changes. Being outside everyday, and for the very sensative (like me) use of a sunlamp. The majority of SAD symptoms disappear with just those two things.

But the same can be said for the majority of illnesses, regardless of why an "official" name has been coined.
