Help, My Mommy's ear itches

My mother called me today and shared with me that her left ear itches when she lays down on her right side, and it feels like something is crawling in it. She said it has been bothering her for about 5 years. Ok, also, when she cleans out her ears there is never any ear wax or anything in her left ear. The doctor looked at it and said it looked normal. Any input would be helpful. Thanks.
